Hats Off!

I see these vintage hats all the time outside my mother's door at the retirement community where she lives. For the first time today I really looked at them and thought ... aha ... they'd make a cute mosaic! The one in the  upper left is just like my dad used to wear, though I don't remember such a wide ribbon.

These all look familiar from my childhood, back in the day when people wore hats a lot!

See Dear Little Red House for some wonderful mosaics!

  1. Those are great! My father loved to wear a hat. I remember as a little girl he always wore one.

I'm sure he was sad when men stopped wearing them so much.

  4. Oh yes, I remember wearing hats to Sunday School and all the mothers had theirs on too.
It's so refreshing to see that our seniors are still dressing up, including hats.

  9. My grandfather always wore a hat - it's one of the things I associate him with. I rather like the formality of past times. ::Jill

  14. I love the straw hats the best and almost always wear one when gardening and out for a walk - they get better with use!

  15. My mother never went to church, shopping or to a luncheon without wearing a hat and gloves. I love hats. The scene in The Bishop's Wife in which Loretta Young is trying on the beautiful hat and wondering if she should purchase it is one of my favorite movie scenes. Thanks for the Monday nostalgia.

  22. And I remember those days. The same days as we were at the Village Church of Western Springs. I watched mom and another lady make their hats one spring. Interesting that hats for women at worship went out of style about the time women's lib came storming in...

  23. I also remember watching the Easter Hat Parade (on TV in blk and white) on 5th Avenue in NY city as a little girl. When color TV arrived I was amazed by those colorful hats. I can still remember the little pill box hats we wore to church around the time Jackie Kennedy made them so popular. I now wear a baseball hat when my roots need to be dyed until I can get my hair done. I think those hat days were fun days:)
