While "up in the mountains" last fall we stopped at a visitor center/art museum.
As we sat around waiting for our friends to finish whatever they were doing, my
camera popped out of my bag to capture the beautiful glass displayed in the windows.
There's something interesting about this glass for some of you who are fans of the
Mitford Series. If you could see through it clearly, you'd see Father Tim's
church across the street… that is, the one JK based her story on.
I love visiting Blowing Rock and thinking of her writing there.
Joining with Mary's Monday Mosaics.
Lord's Chapel? I love Blowing Rock too! When I was there, Jan was still living there in her little cottage by the road. Her old brown Toyota was parked in front so I like to think she was typing out something about Father Tim or Cynthia or Barnabus!!
ReplyDeleteI've tried using scripture on Oliver. It doesn't work.
Best,
Bonnie
oh I LOVED the Mitford series! Probably read each one at least 2 times! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of the Mitford series in years. I don't think I finished it.
ReplyDeleteWow - that glass is beautiful!
Wow...what fantastic images! I have lived in NC for 21 years and have never been to Blowing Rock. What is wrong with me???

I'm saving the most recent two books for a holiday, or a time when I can give myself the treat of uninterrupted and guilt-free hours. I have bought the books many times over, as gifts for friends. I love the feeling of really being there that Jan Karon is able to conjure up!
ReplyDeleteI adore the Mitford series. I've read through them twice.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful glassware.
I love to take pictures of glass -- but I don't think mine have ever turned out so beautifully. Lovely work. And thank you for the reminder of a series I'd forgotten about --
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I have read the Mitford books. Will have to look them up in the library. The glass bottles were so pretty. Valerie

That glass is so brilliantly colored. Just beautiful! It reminds me of some of the glass work that was on loan to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat bright cheerful colors! These are lovely.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful glass Dotsie. I love glass like that to pieces. Reminds me of the year at RBG Kew when Dale Chihuly had a massive exhibition around the whole garden. That was so magical. Actually, I find all coloured glass magical. I used to do a fair bit of stained glass about 20 yrs ago. Wonder why I ever stopped. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the shapes and colors of all the glass bottles. They are lovely!
