It's no wonder (not so) Little One asked me recently if everything in my house is old.
On our kitchen wall hangs a "retro wall phone" that we no longer use but
keep there due to inertia. It actually can be a lot of fun.
First the grandies learned that it is indeed a phone (I'm guessing they know
only cell phones, as Little One asked why you needed both ends on the receiver.)
The Gardener and I have perfected a game of ringing the "old phone ring" on
my cell phone a couple of times and then answering the phone on the kitchen wall.
my cell phone a couple of times and then answering the phone on the kitchen wall.
I usually carry on quite a conversation as if talking to someone very interested
in what the kids are doing and how they are. Usually they don't care to speak
on the phone so I ask the caller to try again another time.
But on this particular day they got into it. As you can see, "Miss Imagination" is
having quite a long conversation with some friend. I was so amused at her facial expressions
and the way she played with the cord while she talked. Where did she learn that from?
The last picture is so funny--she obviously is "listening" to something that is making her smile.
With most of us using cell phones the "mystery" associated with a ringing
phone (sans caller ID) is a thing of the past. No more deciding who will
answer the phone and guessing who will be calling.
It reminds me of when I'd be around my dad when the phone would ring. He'd always
say, "If it's the president calling for me, tell him I'll call him back later."

How cute, you granddaughter playing on the phone. Adorable photos. We had our land lines removed and only use the cell phones now. We are trying to keep up with new technology. enjoy your week ahead!
ReplyDelete'Miss Imagination' is certainly the little actress, utilizing the props, facing the audience and blocking her movements according to the plot, and what a plot it must be! Such suspense!
ReplyDeletePriceless...
Poppy
Oh I'm so in sync with this post!
ReplyDeleteI've got a little "Miss Imagination" too so I know what you mean!
I thought she handled the cord just like a pro model....
Little on looks quite bemused!
Such great photos Dotsi - thank you for showing us!
Wonderful!!!! She reminds me of Maddie...She loves tea parties too. Have a grand week!! Cathy
ReplyDeleteQuite the little cutie- it won't be long and the old phones really will be museum pieces.
ReplyDeleteWhile I use just about some form of all the modern technology out there, I am still a Luddite at heart (to a point) so the photo of your granddaughter on a "real" phone pleases me greatly. I still keep one corded phone in the house in case the power goes out and find it gives the best reception of all our phones. I wouldn't be surprised if her animated expressions were because she had that phone cord to play with...expression begets expression!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Who is the sweet little boy at the end of your post?
ReplyDeleteThat is so precious! It doesn't take a whole lot to entertain little kids! Very sweet mosaic! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteWOW - I have no grandchildren yet so never gave this much thought. They don't even know old phones. Huh, whodathunkit possible?
ReplyDeleteFunny share: my father had 5 children, 3 of them girls. He had made for him an extra EXTRA ridiculously extra long telephone cord for the phone on the wall near the back bedrooms. We had two phone lines, that one was called "the kids phone," and actually was listed as childrens phone in the white pages. LOL. That extra long phone cord allowed us each to be able to use the phone in our prospective bedrooms in private, and also - mom loved this - soak in the back bathroom's tub while on the phone. Dad was genius on how to keep us happy. : - )
Loved this post. Your ggirl is so adorable.
This is so cute. Technology sure had come a long way. I remember when they said we'd have phone that showed us talking to each. I sure poo-pooed that idea back when. Today, can't even think about not haven't Facetime or Skype!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post, gorgeous little girls and one quite a little actress
ReplyDeleteVery fun! She looks like a natural as does the grandboy. Our grands think the old desk phone is great fun. They used to reenact scenes from Thomas the Train. I must saynthat I love a phone that is NOT ringing off the hook. Blessed peace.
ReplyDeleteI remember winding the phone cord around my fingers and having to untangle myself when I'd hang up. Sometimes took a second or two. :)
ReplyDeleteShe sureis a cutie patootie!!1 I remember my daughter pacing back and forth whiketlking to her grandparents when she was little. I said to my hubby I wondered why she did that and he said, "YOU do that"!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! She looks like she is having quite the conversation,,,, :) Stopping in from Mosaic Monday. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGreat series of shots of the gorgeous "girl on the phone"
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing what kids find old these days. Worse still is going to a museum and seeing stuff you used to use.
How cute... Coming over from Mosaic Monday.
ReplyDeleteShe has the actions of phone talking down well. Adorable.
ReplyDeleteThe "olden days" always fascinated me when I was a child. Hard to imagine that the things we know now qualify for that status. Such an animated conversation your little granddaughter is holding. Such fun.
ReplyDeleteOh, this made me smile. The pics of your granddaughter are so sweet. How we loved to play with the curly phone cord at any age. Ahem. We still have one old fashioned phone in the spare bedroom that will work when the power goes out. The cordless ones won't. And we have cell phones now but for some reason we've kept the old phone. I have a photo of our daughter on her 2nd birthday talking to her Nan (my mum) on our gold wall phone with the curly cord. It's a favourite.
ReplyDeleteI love the "cord curling". We did that when we were feeling coy with a boy caller! Oh, I feel old!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
so cute. Great photos that they will show their children and say : that was a telephone!
ReplyDeleteOh, she is darling as she has that animated conversation with her caller. :D
ReplyDeleteCute, cute, cute!
ReplyDeleteDeanna
What a doll Miss Imagination is!!! So cute!!!
ReplyDeletexo Kris
Phone posturing must come naturally. I was a bit taken aback realizing that phone is "old"! We have one in the kitchen that is still in use.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
I am smiling a BIG ole smile, Dotsie. Such precious little ones. Do you think that cord twirling thing is an innate characteristic of users of this phone type? ;) Great fun. Thank you for sharing these precious photos, Dotsie. I'm with your Dad's quote on phone conversations... ;) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteI love the expressions on her face. Certainly engrossed in the conversation with a mystery friend. And looking very much the grown up girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week and thank you for stopping by my blog today.
What a cute post, Dotsie. I love the look on Miss Imagination's face.
ReplyDeleteMy grandchildren talk with me on the phone often - quick conversations that seem to start mid-thought (theirs) and leave puzzlement (mine) in their wake.
We have an old hard-wired phone too. It has come in handy during extended power outages when we can't charge cell phones.
HA! We have a very similar phone that is no longer connected and our grandson played on ours also. Such cute pics of your granddaughter! Our grandson told his pretend phone caller, that he was really busy, in a business mtg so please send an email....shades of his daddy I believe!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute post. These little ones are so adorable!
ReplyDeleteSo interesting how fast little ones pick up on the phone thing. My daughter in law has only a cell phone and no landline. The baby watches everything and she always wants Mommy's phone so now she has a toy copy of the iphone. What is the world coming to. :-} Valerie
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie! She is practicing for teenage years. lol
ReplyDeleteOh I know where Little One got her theatrics on the phone from Dotsie - watching old Doris Day movies with Grandma. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat fun that you make it ring too.
Ha! Loved seeing her twirl the cord. We still have a land line and I have a black retro phone from Pottery Barn. I love how it looks, but it sounds like you are talking though a tin can with strings - very hollow.
ReplyDeleteHope that you are enjoying your week!
Leann
Such animation and imagination and love, and it all goes so quickly...whoosh~ Aah but love remains!!!
ReplyDeleteYour granddaughter looks so animated --what an actress! :)
ReplyDeleteI saved an old FP wooden "chatter telephone" that was my children's toy and now my grandchildren love to play with it. Otherwise they would have no idea what a vintage phone looked like --lol
