mountain valentine

We were up in the mountains with friends Valentine weekend and of course eating meals together was a big part of it all. We've gone away together this same weekend for many years. It's a tradition.

Simple, (not even cloth napkins!), but elegant in its own way!

Fresh greenery and pine cones from right outside the door.

A simple trivette found at the cabin gave a nod to valentine's day.

A hearty beef stew on a cold night looked good in the earth-toned bowls.

You can't beat a mountain view, a roaring fire, and a great meal with old friends.

And a valentine dessert!

  1. What a perfect mountain cabin table. And what's better than a hearty beef stew in such a setting? Appreciated your "bathroom" post. I, too, find old bathrooms tucked away in interesting places fascinating. One of my favorites is in an old building on Michigan Ave. in Chicago that used to house a fine arts theater. Upstairs (reached by an elevator that has an operator) are music practice rooms and midway of the hall is the best old bathroom. Sometimes I go when I don't really need to. Just pay it a visit! And to listen to the music, of course!

  3. mmmmm! That stew looks so yummy with the view out the window and rustic feel in the room. How nice that you have good friends to get together with! We still have leftover snow and it's bitter cold! Hard to get out with babies, you know.

  7. I'm assuming you are no longer in the Chicago area? The Fine Arts Theater that I'm talking about is called The Studebaker Building and it is across from Grant Park. I don't recall a fountain there, however. It has long since stopped showing movies but I'm sure those wonderful music rooms are still there and that they are reached by that neat old elevator.

  10. Of course--Buckingham Fountain. I thought you were talking about a fountain in the lobby or somewhere in the building. We have a connection. Oops, I'm sounding very Chicago-like. Seems that whatever happens in the world, there's always a Chicago connection-or so the news would have one believe.

  17. First time for me to see rustic touch in American table. Isn't it Americans love rustic?

I do adore your homely, cosy treat with old friends + the yummy food? What can I ask for more.

    Greetings from a snowy Stockholm.

  18. Do you know, after continually setting the table with assorted plastic bowls and my prized Fiestaware bowls for stew, I was taken with your table. I yearn for an evening's meal with bowls set ON plates. Love the look.

Must take the time to try that. I tend to hurry through throwing everything on the table at once, and taking time seems to be a must. :)
