compensation

Something that always amazes me, makes me pause, wonder, relish, enjoy ... are crepe myrtles.
They seem their most vibrant when the weather is the hot, hot, hottest.

How can they stand so tall and regal, so full of life and blooms, when everything else
withers and dies without regular watering?

I like to think to think of them as a graceful "compensation package" for us having
to endure our hot summers here in the south.  :-)

  1. I've never seen a crepe myrtle - just photos. They are truly beautiful.

  2. They are colorful and breathtaking trees! We lost an ash this summer and are replacing it with a crape myrtle! I love the hot pink color! Can you pick the flowers and do they hold well inside?

I love your attitude! Look for the bright side!

  3. I love them, too, especially the dark pink, almost red ones.....the other heat-tolerant plant I love is lantana, the yellow and the red/orange hybrid. That red gets so bold and they don't need much water and love the heat! It's a good flower for this weather!

  4. Oh I totally agree. I admired them every time I went to visit my sister in southern CA. I keep hoping to find one that will live in our colder regions. They are gorgeous.

  5. They seem to be the only tree/bush around South here that just keeps on going...and this heat index of 110F. just doesn't faze them.

    There's a metaphor hidden in there, isn't there? ;)

    Btw, your header is peachy!

  6. One of my favorite photographs of my mother was taken underneath the vibrant blooms of her crepe myrtle. Her backyard was filled with them interspersed with pink dogwoods. Lovely!
