Brunch inside "Boniface's" cool house on a hot day is a pleasant way to spend a summer morning.
We read Counterfeit Gods by Tim Keller and had record attendance.
The food, served on Boniface's grandmother's beautiful china, was superb
and her table was lovely.
The book is deeply personal and affected each of us in different ways.
We shared some of those ways with each other during our lively discussion.
Quote: "A counterfeit god is anything so central and essential to your life that,
should you lose it, your life would hardly be worth living." (xviii)
(to answer questions re. food above: almond/blueberry scones, and spinach quiche.)
Connecting to Tablescape Thursday today at Between Naps on the Porch.
Ok - so can I just say that you attend the COOLEST "teas." The pictures are beatiful and give me hope that one day (a loooooooong time from now) I might actually pull out that fancy wedding china and use it :) I'll have to check out that book too :)

There is just something about old china that is so much more beautiful than the china of today...maybe it is just knowing it has a story to tell.

What no Cherry Ames book?
This one sounds a lot more age appropriate!
Stay cool...
Looking at the food, at first I wondered at the odd combination of olives and almonds....but then I realized those are cherries! Yum.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderfully enlightening book; I've no read any of Tim Keller yet.
This sounds like a book that I'd like to read. What is that wonderful looking cheesy dish - a quiche?

The vintage china is so lovely. The multi-colored glassware and teapots add to the charm of table. It sounds like a wonderful gathering. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNow I have a picture of the scones, I think I'll make them again this weekend for another tea I'm hosting. I will do it as the recipe showed this time, in the shape of flowers, with almond petals and blueberries in the center. Colors for the tea: navy and gray planned for an Oct. wedding! I just used a basic scone recipe but added almond extract. They look so pretty with all your photos from our bookclub, and what an amazing book, hubby is reading it now.
