For years I had a yearning to decorate a mantle, which was nonexistent in this house until last year.
I find it more of a challenge than I imagined.
Especially since many things do not stand out against rosey red bricks.
First come the ancestors, of course. Always in my house. This little girl is my mama at about two.
Candles are always good. You see those and books all over our house.
And, of course, blue and white.
So there we are. Tweaked many times. A work in progress until it's time for the next season.

It looks wonderful, and I love the rosy red brick too! The mantel looks fantastic against that brick.
ReplyDeleteI love the vignettes of your mantle Podso. looks great. Have a lovely weekend.

I think the candles & the way that the floral arrangement "moves" tie everything together beautifully, Dotsie. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteYour brick fireplace is beautiful and I like the way you have done the mantel, very pretty. I love having photos of ancestors around the house, too, a connection to the past. The older I get the more I need it, especially as how they've all passed away now.

I like! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your fireplace and the decor you chose for fall. The old family photos are just great. I enjoy looking at old photos for the styles of clothes and serious expressions on the faces. It looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteWe have a mantle that is 14 feet long. It is very difficult to come up with things that will work well together and fill up the space. It's perfect for the Christmas village. The rest of the year, I spend a lot of time looking at it and scratching my head!! I love your mantle combination. I think I'll search around to see if I have enough photos of ancestors to work--a real family reunion I guess.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Oh it looks great! You'll probably keep right on tweaking...at least, I always do. Love the candles, the ancestors, the blue and white, the organic things. That's a lovely mantel by the way.
ReplyDeleteI think your mantel is lovely - full of personality and warmth. Mine gets tweaked every week, I think.
ReplyDeleteSad face, I have a fireplace, I have no mantle.
ReplyDeleteHappy face, your mantle looks lovely!
Beautiful! Your fireplace surround is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI deal with the same dilemma with a brick fireplace. Things seem to just disappear into it. I've had better luck with large pieces, greens, turquoises, copper, some blues. Reds are usually disappointing, clear glass is impossible. For some reason, copper and orange do work during this season. If you go back and look at the Pink Tower post, I think there is a shot of the mantel dressed for Fall. I keep thinking that I'm going to have it refaced with stone or marble...someday. Cherry Kay

ReplyDeleteI just wanted to visit from the nesting party. =)

ReplyDeleteSimplicity at its finest!!! Love your mantle!!!
Fondly,

I think I was so taken by your mantle project because I SO want to do the same thing here. We have a red brick fireplace with only a tiny brick ledge for a mantle. I think this is our next project!
ReplyDeleteYour fall mantle is just lovely.
