Lunch at Mom's

Mom's apartment was shown in a recent open house at her retirement community.
I decided to spruce it up a bit more and set the table with her pretty Franciscan
Desert Rose dishes.  She got these later in life, and I absolutely love them.

Placemats. You just can't have too much of this pretty pattern!

Narrow-shaped glasses that match the set.

Can you ever have too much pink?

Mom's good friend, Marian, had Franciscan china--the Apple pattern I believe,
which I remember from eating at their house during my childhood. So I
always think of fun times with their large family when I see these dishes.

Engraved napkin rings were a wedding present 67 years ago!

  8. The table looks so lovely! I have my mother's set that she bought back in the 50's. My mother didn't have china so those were the dishes we had our holiday dinners on. Wonderful memories! Thanks for sharing.

  15. Oh. My. Goodness. I almost cried when I saw those dishes. My great aunts have them. They are considered the matriarchs on my dad's side, sisters of his dad, never married, lived together their whole lives. I always loved those dishes growing up. Reminds me of my midwestern home. Thank you for the memory!

That was a time when people really relished fine things and a state of etiquette and refinement I'd like to see revived. Tell your Mom hello, and you guys have a safe and happy Halloween!!!

  20. My paternal Grandmother's china was the beautiful Desert Rose. Everytime I see this pattern memories of dinners of delicious fried chicken and my sweet Grandma fill my senses.
