spring mow again

I love cutting the grass this time of year. Its lush green color and rich scent spill into my psyche. The tidy definitive rows do something for my love of orderliness and sense of accomplishment.
And when I mow I wish I could be a child in our yard. My mower turns a corner under trees that would make wonderful tea party places or passes over expanses of lawn begging for blankets spread out for doll playing. There's a few potential climbing trees and tall bushes for hide and seek.
Mowing affords time for my mind to deliciously wander back to childhood and visions of delight in simple things. An hour later muscles may ache, but my mind is refreshed like I've been on a short holiday.

This was one of my first posts, four years ago. I still love to mow the lawn. It's like time out where I only have to focus on the lawn, and whatever I want to think about!

  1. I remember the play houses so well. We'd play all day if we could.
I can smell the grass now. I'm from KY so it's bluegrass...still smells the same...

  2. I have such happy memories of playing in new mown grass in Virginia!! My husband mowed our grass for the first time last week. The next day, it snowed! Ah, the fickle midwest weather.

    Best,

  3. As a young girl I used to love sitting on the newly mown grass watching my Dad play cricket on Sunday afternoons. After the match there would always be tea in the Pavilion. We used to take ours back outside for a picnic.
    Happy Days.

  4. Podso, I do believe you and I are kindred spirits. I have finally found someone who loves cutting grass like I do. I love the smell and love making the rows all nice and neat, too. My hubby thinks I'm a bit obsessed. Great post.

  5. I agree with Kim, I love cutting my 2 acres of grass, it is my time, for me and my thoughts. I have had people actually fuss to me because my DH doesn't cut the grass and I have to...how terrible..lol..I tell them, no it isn't, he knows that if he touches my lawn mower, he will get hurt, that is MY job and one I love dearly.
I'm so glad I found some one else like me.

  6. Well I'm not one to mow, but I know what you mean about being out in the yard. Our pecan tree has a wooden swing in it and every once in a while I like to reach for it.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  8. I love a freshly mowed lawn however that is the one extravagance we have here... we hired someone to mow for us.
I can't start a mower because my arms are not long enough to pull the cord out all the way....electric not an option and the auto starts always fail. Hubby isn't always around to mow. Get the picture.
I call my lawn guy the lawn fairy because I can come home and voila magically the lawn has been mowed and trimmed perfectly.
Then I have time to have the tea party in that special spot you speak of.

  9. Hi Ms.P...

Ohhh...you have lovely property and yes, I certainly can envision a fabulous tea party under that tree!!! I used to really enjoy mowing as well...loved to do it for the excersize.
