For the photo challenge today I turned this to black and white after adding
a tad of "exposure"and giving it some "warmth"and "sharpness" in my simple iPhoto program.
I wonder if this used to be Joe's corner barber shop. LOL

I don't think I used a flash with this but the shine is probably from the piano light.
Since I have used this photo before on my blog I altered it a bit by making it a "warmer"
hue in my iPhoto program and added a bit of "contrast" and "highlights."
I had this post all ready when it suddenly came to me that this photo is not actually "words."
But it could be considered "lettering" -- musicians read the notes to play
music that at times can speak as well as words to us.

My grandfather's spelling book. Look at the varied fonts.
I think I cropped this to make it a close in photo but did not use a flash.
I couldn't resist this "bonus" found at the
Spring show last week. Lovely, colorful lettering
on a black canvas. The little hanging things, by the way,
are bits of plastic water bottles on string.
I enjoyed this photo challenge as I love letters and words and enjoy
photographing them. I am joining Donna's Photo Challenge today.
I like how you have edited your photos.

ReplyDeleteOh, I love the piano music...looks challenging to play and the Spelling book! What wonderful choices. There was so much to do with the challenge this month. Very nice my friend! (and why can't I remember to angle photos like you did with your music?) Sweet hugs!
ReplyDeleteNeat photos, I especially like the speller.
ReplyDeleteDeanna
My favorite is the sheet music so there I go missing the boat again! Ha! And the last one is very cool and I am glad that you added it.
ReplyDeleteI love each one of your challenge photos, Dotsie! I love the fonts on the speller...they kind of remind me of some of the word art I see these days. Everything old is new again?
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, especially the sheet music!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos Dotsie. I love them all but the first one and the last one are so beautiful. I love the colours in the last one and all the different script. A fun challenge!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to see these wonderful pictures on this snowy day. The photo's looks great and I love your swing in the header.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy letters and words too! You have such a variety of photos and styles here. The old speller is intriguing, but I paused longest at your first one of the barber shop. There's a lot to notice in that picture.
ReplyDeleteI like your choice of photos, and agree that to a musician notes are like words are to a writer. I found an on-line watercolor effect site that I'm trying out. It doesn't do the effect as well as your app does, but it will be fun to try it out on my photos.
ReplyDeleteWasn't this a fun challenge? I find it comical that there is a "do not enter" center next to Joe's. And the sheet music definitely counts in my book as "words and letters". Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI mean "do not enter" sign. I need to remember to edit!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of wonderful subjects.
ReplyDeleteI must join a photo challenge to help me with my photography skills.
I love them all Dotsie!
ReplyDeleteThe one that encapsulates "words and letters" for me is your Grandfathers copy of "Monroe's Practical Speller". What an exquisite book cover truly a work of art.
The intricate pattern decoration now a thing of the past sadly.
I'm so happy it is one of your treasures and have no doubt it will be treasured by generations to come as well!
I'm sorry I missed this challenge but if I get time I'm going to have a little play with ideas over the weekend!
An old barber shop graphic? Love it! I also adore the vintage book cover. Those are works of art as far as I am concerned. The musical notes represent the letters of the scale, so it works! And the chalkboard photo added at the end is adorable! Great job on this challenge!
ReplyDeleteHello Dotsie
ReplyDeleteI like the first photo with the signage from the old barbershop, it brings back memories.
The sheet music was a good idea too and I like the warmth added to the photos.
Like that last one, lotsa letters!
ReplyDeletePodso,
ReplyDeleteLove the barbershop photo...reminded me of our living in Maryland in the early 1970's! Sheet Music and vintage Spelling book are amazing!!! I'd say you met this challenge...great photography, dear friend!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Love all these. I especially like the last one. The black just makes the lettering pop!
ReplyDeleteOh Wow... You really nailed this one! Perfect examples of words and letters. Each one excellent!
ReplyDeleteI love the Spelling Book. The varied fonts and embossed lettering make it so attractive, not only to look at, but to run your fingers over. I would say that music definitely counts - it's another language!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos.
Love all of your shots but especially the sheet music (being a music-lover) and the old speller. Such beautiful fonts and designs on it. Love your header photo too...
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me to join in the challenge, so thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteI like the chalkboard with all its colours
