At our mentor meeting this month
we learned how to do a simple
dining room chair recover.
I emphasize the "we" as I've been looking forward to this tutorial for a long time. I knew it was a fairly simple procedure but I think the real challenge is in choosing the right fabric. Which, yes, would not be
easy for me.
We also gave each of them a staple gun designed for a woman's hand.
Makes the stapling much easier.
It's hard to believe there are two more meetings before our
two years with them are finished.
We'll miss the girls (as we call them.)
Then it will be time to begin again with a new group.
I always enjoy reading about your mentoring group. This was an interesting and practical skill to learn, the covering of a chair.
ReplyDeleteI know that "the girls" will miss you as much as you will miss them! What a blessing this group must have been to them!
Your group teaches the girls such useful skills. Love this idea. We covered our dining room chairs and I was surprised at the strength it took to stretch the fabric sufficiently.
ReplyDeleteThose mentoring girls have been so blessed to be part of your group! What neat things you've done to help and encourage them!
ReplyDeleteDeanna
I've had a go at this, and a staple gun that a woman can work easily would be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMerle............
Hi Dotsie, I'd love to read more about your mentoring group. Can you point me to the first post you did about it?
ReplyDeleteWhat fun, practical things have been taught. If I were in the group, I would not enjoy having to leave. Thank you for the tip on a good staple gun for women. I need one.
ReplyDeleteI know the blessings have gone both ways with this group. I suspect your "girls" will stay a part of your lives... whether in person or in the ways you have touched each others lives. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Dotsie. blessings ~ t.
ReplyDeleteThose girls are getting some wonderful lessons and handy tips. Fun stuff! Blessings, Tammy
ReplyDeleteI like the fabric you chose for your chair covers. I hope you show us the makeover someday. It's wonderful that you have chosen to mentor these young girls over a 2 year period. A lot can be learned in that time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great project to tackle and it will be something they may surely need along life's way. I think the stapler made for a women's hand is a great idea. Blessings!
ReplyDeletePodso,
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing decor skill to teach these "girls" how to re~cover a chair! Special treat to have their own staple gun, too!!!
Sad to think of your time as being over with them. Perhaps you could have a "reunion" and invite them back for a special occasion!
Thank you for sharing all the tutorials with us!!!
Fondly,
Pat
I so wish you were here to show me how to do that....Smiles, Dottie
ReplyDeleteWhat a great ministry, I so admire you. These gils will never forget the time, and love that was so freely given to them. And Now you will have new girls to love and minister to.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.
Blessings,
Sue
I'm sure you've been as blessed as those you've mentored. Their lives will be forever changed because of the love your group has shown them. Well done. xo
ReplyDeleteWe had hand-me-down dining room chairs from my parents, and I can't remember how many times I recovered them, so your photos bring back lots of memories! I wonder if I have pictures of all the iterations. I got very handy with that staple gun!
ReplyDeleteThese girls will be so prepared for adult/married life with all your mentoring classes.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the best ideas I've ever heard about and the teaching group deserves a big pat on the back.
You are a wonderful group of caring women giving of your time to mentor others. I'm sure there are rewards along the way as you see each person develop new skills.
ReplyDeleteBless you all
hugs
Shane
Good craft to know, Dotsie!
ReplyDeleteI also have a hard time choosing fabric. When I recovered my dining room chairs I actually found a heavy weight shower curtain on eBay. I was looking for just the right color and pattern and didn't want to spend a bundle. It was just big enough to cover six chairs. They are holding up well.
ReplyDeleteYour group is a special one! I imagine your have forges some precious friendships.
