a gift

A friend of mine took ill overnight. Healthy one day and near death the next.
Her immediate future at this point is unknown (to us.)
I watched an interview of the brother of an American on the flight gone missing.
He said how his brother viewed each day as a gift.
The Gardener, just two weeks before the plane went away,
flew out of the same airport on the same airlines,
headed in a similar direction.
So the news clutched at my heart.
Look around you, look outside.
Grab up today.
It is a gift.

  1. The complete disappearance of that flight has nagged at me. A state of limbo for loved ones. I will say a prayer for your friend, Dotsie. Each day truly is a gift; I do try to be mindful of that.

    Blessings,

  4. Indeed, the older we get, the more we learn to at least attempt to live in the moment....prayers for all on board the flight and your friend who is ill. Life changes and that is so certain.

  7. I am so sorry to hear of your friend being ill. And the news of that missing plane is so very sad.
You are so right, and this post is very timely for me. My Mom and I have spent a LOT of time together in these past couple of weeks, as we wait for her upcoming surgery. We don't know what the future holds. But we are clinging to today. So very thankful for my family! Blessed indeed!!

  8. Oh, Dotsie, I was thinking about you when I heard the reports.....I can understand how you feel. My husband was in the offices that the plane entered two weeks later on 9/11. It does make you stop to appreciate life from a different perspective.

  13. The missing plane brought back bad memories for my family. My cousin's husband was navigator on a Flying Tiger airplane that went missing in 1962 while taking soldiers to Viet Nam. He left my cousin with 5 kids. The family had no closure until a few years ago when the government finally released information as to what happened.

  15. Dear Dotsie, thank you for sharing this reminder to 'grab up today' before it's gone. A nine year old boy dropped dead on Monday of an unknown heart disorder while walking to school. He attended our church's Sunday school and his farewell will be at our church on Saturday. His parents and sister are grieving but so thankful for the light that their little boy was in their lives. So many questions. So much to give thanks for, including the Gardener's safe return. Praying for your dear friend.

  18. Each day is a gift, and we have to live it well. I hope this flight doesn't become the mystery of the century, strange to lose a plane in our age of technology.
Close call for your hubby to have been in and around the same situation.

  20. Oh Dot your friend is in my prayers. I cannot image how those people with loved ones missing must feel they are all in my prayers as well.

So glad that the Gardner was not on that flight. It does make you take thought...

  24. Podso,
Over the past few years, I've tried everyday to tell "Mr. Ed" how precious he is in my life. Each time I see a friend, I try to let them know what a blessing they are to me. Sometimes, I get "that look", but recently we lost our 40year old neighbor to Cancer. I agree, everyday is a gift!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat
P.S. I count your continued friendship a blessing to my life!
