after the rush

I'm taking my time this year putting away the kiddy dishes, and other reminders of
the lively time we had over the past two weeks when
12 people laid their heads to rest at our house (in two segments).
Yes there's much laundry to be done, beds to be changed,
for more will come before long ... linen to fold, napkins to iron ....
... and still decorations to be put away ... I'm taking my time for three reasons:

1. I've caught a little virus and am trying to rest more.
2. I love leisurely cleaning up after such a wonderful time, as it gives me time
to remember, to reflect, and to solidfy memories in my mind and heart.
3. If I have a goal at all this year, it's to slow down and take better care of myself.
There is no better time to start than right this very week, taking it all slowly.
I need to learn that the tasks-to-do list will wait for me!
And, I'm reflecting on the year ahead. For several reasons, I do wonder what 2012
will hold for all of us. I'm thinking it may be a year that we'll remember
above others. But I love the peace I have as I face the "blank pages."
I have total confidence in Who is writing them.

  1. I don't like #1 and hope that you're feeling better soon.
I totally agree with #2. As I do each visit-related task in the cleanup, I remember.

I do need to get to the laundry soon or go shopping. Hmm!

    Best,
    Bonnie

  2. I'm sorry to hear you have a virus. Hope it is short in duration. You must have had a wonderful time with all your loved ones. Loved ones sounds so old-fashioned but thats what they are... & love makes us rich on the inside.

Our tree is still up, and I thought we would wait till Friday to take it down, because it is supposed to warm up to 45 then. Last night it was 12 degrees here, and you know how cold that would be in the attic, to take up the tree.

I noticed that your blog only displays one post at a time. Is that what makes your pictures a much larger size than mine? (and thanks to your camera skills....they are gorgeous and of course I'm envious...ha ha) (but I do love your photography skills!) I enjoyed todays visit =)f

I think because its January, I'm much chattier...cold weather and my blogging and cups of tea just seem to go together. You take good care of yourself and get well soon! Maggie

  3. I hope you feel better soon...it's not particularly fun to start the year off under the weather. But if you take it slow, as you are, hopefully you will kick it soon.

Love your honest pictures!! You would never want to see my laundry room!! Especially now since I am so backed up. I agree, though...it's a time to reflect, not hurry. And each page, thankfully, is blank!

    XO,
    Jane

  4. You have a peaceful and gracious looking laundry room...I like that. Yes, what will 2012 bring? Praise to Him for the peace and the grace of confidence He gives us. I look forward to watching the days unfold with you and so many others in the land of blogging.

  5. What a sweet post, I find putting things away to be so sad...I grow too introspective at times like that. Unless for some reason I am glad that everyone is gone. I have not felt that way in a long, long time, though.
I'm so sorry that you have caught a virus, rest is what you need right now.
    Hugs, Cindy

  6. Sorry you are under the weather. Hope you feel better soon! I'm still in the process of putting my things away too. I told my kids I wish we could leave it up until spring. I really do love Christmas that much. I love your words at the end of the post, similar to mine. So glad to know HE is the author of our lives!

  7. I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I also had a bad cold after Christmas, and it slowed me down quite a bit,so laundry, and so, on piled up

I'm finally feeling better now as eating lots of home made chicken soup really helped.

    Hope you feel better soon!
Savoring the days is a wonderful way to begin 2012 :)

  8. I hope that the virus loosens its hold on you before too long. It looks like there's lots to do, and those lovely blank pages to fill!

  9. Hope you are feeling much, much better. No fun to start the year with a virus. I am with you on #2... the sweet little moments that pop into your head and heart while finding odd little left-behinds and items that need to be put away until the next visit...

love and appreciate your goal to take better care of yourself... and the trust in Who writes the pages... blessings ~ tanna

  11. You're so smart to take it slowly. I think I was reflecting on the dirty laundry piles and just didn't realize it! So that's why they are still there? We had Christmas on New Year's eve.
    Hope you feel better now..

  12. Podso,
    Precious are your reflections!
"Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand. But I know Who holds tomorrow...and I know Who holds my hand". Take time to heal from your illness. Take time to enjoy life's little things. I'll be back as the pages of that journal unfold!
    Fondly,
    Pat
