I get such a catch in my heart when I see an old barn falling to ruin. When you think of what that barn must have meant at one time - it meant a safe place for cattle and feed and later, for equipment. It showed the success of the farmer - was his barn large and sturdy? For such an emblem of hard work to fall into such disrepair, the family must have sold and left. I'd love to know the story.
Podso, Reminds me of my husband's family farm and barn. Theirs was painted red. Early one morning in April, we recieved a call from my father-in-law to come to the farm. His hereford cow and given birth that morning. He took the boys, "Mr. Ed" and I to the barn and introduced us to his new hereford calf named...Bunny! Fondly, Pat
Wouldn't you love to have some stories about it?

I think it's beautiful too. I love old barns but I sure do hate to see them falling in disrepair like that.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking old barn, looks like it is still used though, is it? Jackie in Surrey, UK.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful, Dotsie... but, of course, I want to "save" it! I think the nurse never leaves us! ;) Makes a great photo!! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteNeeds some love and care. One wonders why these old barns and houses aren't kept up.

What a glorious old barn! I absolutely love it. Having been raised on a farm, I have a real love of barns. I'm so glad you shared this with us!
ReplyDeleteThe barn has a tumble-down charm about it--especially with the vine? bush? flowering up it's side. I love the tin roof!

ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you & yours,

Oh yes...it reminds me of 'The Enchanted Barn' by Grace Livingston Hill. A young woman rents a barn for her family to really live in...
ReplyDeleteYes it is beautiful, and the slight sagging makes its lines even more graceful....
