the power of a handwritten note

I was reminded recently of the impact a simple note can make. Several years ago I wrote to a family I did not know well, to encourage them about something we had in common. I never heard from them, nor saw them again. But because of what we share in common, I often think of them and wonder if they ever received what I wrote.

Eventually one day the father of the family sought us out at church. What a surprise to see him--we didn't even know if they were still at our (rather large) church. He remembered that note all these years later, and had been wanting to thank us, letting us know how much it had meant to them that we had remembered and had written it.

Lesson to be learned: "no feedback" doesn't mean anything. Just do what God tells you to do, and let it go from there. He does His work, using your little part.

  2. Podso,
We plant the seeds; however it is "The Master Gardener" who tends to their growth. Lovely post!

  3. It's also a lesson to me to be aware of those little "parts" as I go about my day.

  4. So true - and a very good reminder. The handwritten note, the message left on an answering machine - those missives sent off without strings can be so important.

  5. How true this is and a good reminder that when we feel God's urge to do some little insignifant thing for someone, He will carry it through even if we don't know the result. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, Pamela

  7. Love this post, Dotsie. A good lesson. A very good lesson. Handwritten notes are especially nice in this day and age... And, following our Instructions... always a good idea. ;)

  8. Yes, it seems that the written word is becoming a lost art. I missed my chance to write my aunt when my cousin asked that I send her cards in the nursing home as she was lonely. Susan at Writing Straight from the Heart, wrote on my behalf since mail from this side of the world takes forever (the card from my cousin took a month to get to me). Sadly, Susan's note was sent the day my aunt died. She couldn't have known that would happen and I felt guilty that I didn't act sooner and send something by courier. We just never know what will happen. It is nice to know that your gesture was much appreciated. Have a super Sunday. :) Tammy

  9. Hi Dotsie...

My friend, I really enjoyed this post and was so glad that you shared it with us for the Sunday Favorites repost party today! Ohhh yes...how very important for us to be obedient to the Lord! You know, it really doesn't take much time to just sit down and pen a note! I'm afraid that handwritten letters are quickly becoming a lost art...with all the modern technology! I hate to admit it, but I don't write as many handwritten letters these days as well! Many years ago, I felt led of the Lord to start a card ministry at our church. I sent cards out for birthdays, anniversaries, get well's, etc. I really enjoyed it and many a time was told how encouraging the card was to the recipient. Hmm...hadn't thought about that in years! Hehe!

Well dear friend, I hope that you are having a wonderful and blessed Sunday!

    Warmest wishes,
    Chari

  10. NO, no feedback but when there is a correspondence it is so much richer! It's a conversation instead of one sided! I got a letter from one son at college last week. Second one this year! He replied not via texting or email but wrote. That made my day!

I love this post...so many things we do everyday and never see the results or get any confirmation but we need to continue on and let God work it out...I really enjoy your blog...I'm not sure exactly how I got here...just wandering around and found you but I love how I find an instant connection on some blogs that I visit. I'm new to blogging and I'm really enjoying it-meeting the nicest people. I appreciate that you stopped by to visit me. I hope your Easter is full of joy. Patti
