a queen's kitchen

It's funny how things "bother" you.  For years the rusted hinges and grungy hardware on our kitchen cabinets were like a burr under a saddle.  When Eldest Son was putting in granite countertops in our kitchen, we decided this was the time to replace the hardware. The thing that really "sealed the deal" was 1. a small bonus at work to cover the cost, and 2. the Gardener bought himself a small power screwdriver. What a difference it made to an otherwise tedious project.
It dressed the cabinets up so much I'm not even sure they need that coat of paint I was thinking they did.

I'm keeping this little blackboard painted plate in the kitchen to let Eldest know how
much we appreciate his gift to us!
I feel a little like a queen working in a kitchen as nice as this, though I'm fairly certain that queens don't cook!

  4. I can absolutely relate to the joys of new cabinet hardware. Our problem was the age of our cabinets-1921. Each handle was ever so slightly off the standard widths. We finally decided to paint the wood cabinets and were able to seal the holes and drill proper ones. We hired the painting and drilling done. I'm going to post old to new soon. I have a question. Do you think an electric screwdriver would be an appropriate Valentine's gift?

Yes, queens cook. I do it 90% of the time!! = : )

    Best,

  14. Dotsie,

Little things like that really do make a difference. I replaced all the knobs and handles on my sewing cabinets.

Everyone should have an electric screw driver and keep it charged.

    Beautiful kitchen.

  24. I've always loved how new hardware can make such a huge difference. I'm all about changing things on the cheap for big results. Of course, you made a huge change with that lovely granite. Doesn't get much prettier than that! Enjoy your beautiful kitchen, queen!

  25. Both the countertops and hardware are great pick-me-ups...very cute! But I really think that it is so sweet that your boy did that for you and had to smile at his doing granite work reminded you of him as a little boy collecting rocks...
    Have a great week!

  26. This looks so great! Love the handles and the granite your son installed. I have wanted these in the St. Augustine kitchen for so long, and I love the grey. We hesitated doing it because the house is on the market, but I've just about decided to do it anyhow. Our actual residence has black ones, and I really like the grey better.

    Great job!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)
