It's a standard joke here in the south that everyone flocks to the store for bread and milk when any mention of snow is made by weather people. I heard recently that double amounts of bread and milk are now delivered when a storm is imminent. Maybe that's why when we went to the store on the eve of the storm, there seemed to be plenty of both. I remember in the past the shelves would be empty. We've been "low-carbing" it for months now, but for some reason we found ourselves at the grocery looking for oatmeal bread. Comfort food I guess, and we enjoyed french toast for breakfast.
I haven't made that in years.

The "icing on the cake" is that our beautiful snow now has been glazed over with a coat of ice. No school tomorrow again, and with our cold temperatures hanging around, it will be awhile until it melts. Here in the south snowplows are strangers to side streets. We wait for the thaw.
We may be in for a day or two more. Not complaining.

So beautiful! Enjoy being snowed in in the cul-de-sac!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that if I have a well-stocked pantry and a good book, I don't mind being snowed in for awhile. Not to rub it in, but we are rarely unable to get out. Except in the most dire circumstances, the side streets and alleys are plowed starting when the snow starts.
ReplyDeleteStay warm and safe.
Best,
Bonnie
I have a snow day here, too! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean about the cold and snow stimulating a craving for all things carb! LOL! There is simply comfort to be had from a warm piece of bread or a nice serving of cobbler. LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove your views from your windows!
What part of the south are you in? I'm in SW GA. We did not get snow, just ice. boo hoo. Hate to waste a bad weather day on ice alone. Would've loved to have played in the white stuff. We're a couple of hours away from Atlanta. Sure you've seen the mess there. My kids were thrilled with no school yesterday and it was extremely hard to make them go back today. I'm now enjoying a little peace and quiet. French toast sounds pretty good! Maybe I should go make some. Enjoy your snow!
ReplyDeleteBack to respond to your comment--we have to shovel our roof too! We found that out the hard way after a particularly heavy and long-staying snow. The ceilings in the living room and dining room started leaking. Odd since there were bedrooms above them with no leaks! We have a long, long pole with a "scooper" for this chore.
ReplyDeleteYes, those are my little South Carolina nieces.
Best,
Bonnie
A respite such as this can certainly be a welcome thing...and you've got the makings for French toast, so it is sure to be pleasant!
ReplyDeleteYep... I ran to the store for bread and milk -- and then the snows came! I'm enjoying being tucked in this week playing catch-up!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that photo, the last close-up of that glass... something? Love the Bokeh (blurred photo subject matter) in the background! Hope you're enjoying your snow day. Ours is being spend packing. :)
ReplyDeleteDotsie,
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Love your photography.
Have a good week and stay warm.
Carol
Podso,
ReplyDeleteHm~m~m. . .french toast sounds so yummy! Yes.. . I understand the low~carb thing. . .us, too! But doesn't a grilled cheese sound delicious? Thank you for your precious photos of the snow!
Fondly,
Pat
I always forget that you are in the south. I wonder why that is - I haven't noticed a style of writing that is particular to either north or south....
ReplyDeleteLike you, we wait for the snow to melt because it only comes once or twice a year. The only problem is that when it snow it snows a lot because we get a lot of precipitation on the island.
It is the same here..everyone runs out to buy milk! Usually our snow is managed easily but the last storm really made all those who stocked up on milk and bread happy as the stores did not get delivery for a week!
