Why do winter and white seem to flow together? It might be the thought of snow
(only a thought here this winter), or the starkness and sort of "cleanness" of white,
related to a new year, cleaning out, a fresh start.
Once Christmas was cleaned off the mantle I hung up a much loved photo
of my mother's family, and thought "white." Easy to accomplish a white mantle
with my love/collection of pitchers, especially white ones. My eye is so pleased to
look upon pretty shapes in all sizes. I actually filled the mantle all the way
across with a full line-up but it was voted down by the
Gardener as "w-a-y" too much. I trust his good eye for decor.
I married a renaissance man.
Have you heard that expression?
I love white dishes, pitchers, platters, etc! I think your mantle looks very nice! I often do white for the winter, but this year did silver.
ReplyDeleteI have heard the term renaissance man! They are rare!
Deanna
Ah yes, the renaissance man---a well rounded man with many talents. I know a few of these rare men.
ReplyDeleteYour mantel looks lovely, Dotsie. So pretty dressed in white. ♥
I love your white fireplace surround against the rustic brick. Your white arrangement sets it all off very nicely. I associate winter with white I think because of the use of candles and lights during the long dark months. White helps to brighten everything up!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for renaissance men! I almost purchased a white lamp yesterday. Then I remembered that I had no place to put it!!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Your mantel is lovely.
ReplyDeleteOur son is a Renaissance man - he is talented in so many areas and has an interest in every field.
I never tire of displays of white. Very calming.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have heard of the term and know a fair number of men who qualify. My hubby could qualify if he only learned how to cook. =D I really like your white mantel with its touch of blue in the mat and all the white...the light adds a warming touch as do the bricks.
ReplyDeleteWell this is so pretty, Dotsie! That candle sconce is BEAUTIFUL!! I love the way you've arranged your pitchers in descending order; it gives things a nice symmetry. I, too, think that white symbolizes winter -- white, blue, and grey. I'm still loving your fireplace surround and am hoping that Hal and I can maybe try to construct one for our 70's fireplace one day soon. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Hugs,
Denise
White is so restful. And so love your header
ReplyDelete:)
I'm liking your white decor on the mantel, especially your white pitchers and the pretty candelabra. It all looks very pretty. I just have to look outside to see white. ;) Blessings. Pam
ReplyDeleteI like the look as it is now, not overpowering with your pretties but still effective and matching the frame on the photo.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is definitely not a renaissance man. :-)
Your mantle is so lovely, I too like white pitchers, I have yet to redo my mantle since taking Christmas decorations down. I just can't seem to find the right idea , your white theme gives me much food for thought. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Sue
How nice to have a Renaissance man in your life! You and he did a lovely job of decorating the mantel together...it is beautiful! I love your procession of white pitchers. Does your Renaissance man help you spy pitchers for your collection when you shop?
ReplyDeleteI love it! That is perfect! I wish I had a mantle!
ReplyDeleteLove your simple mantle!
ReplyDeleteI agree that this time of year it is nice to keep it sparse and easy on the eyes.
It looks just perfect Podso.
ReplyDeleteI dont have a mantle.. I do like them.
The pitchers look great.
happy sunday.
val
Your mantel looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnd it's lovely how the soft light enhances the beauty of the wall (especially in the first photo).
Have a great new week!
Yes... winter white... I'm sharing your love... Your mantle looks lovely and soothing, Dotsie... especially with your photo. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to decorating, I say the more the merrier. I don't seem able to pare things down. I do love white pitchers. A very serene mantle. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely mantel, aglow with the purity of white. I've always found the colour to be warm, even though it has been criticized for the being the opposite. In any event, I chose it to cover my kitchen cabinets and open shelving, and feel cheery whenever I walk into the space, and especially in the morning, even before my first cup of coffee!';) Here, it is complemented so beautifully by the red, earthy tones of the brick wall behind it. Such an inviting scene, serene, and cozy.
ReplyDeleteHappy February!
Poppy
Winter and white do go together! I did paper whites this winter, now I am on a color kick with spring flowers. Just stopping by to see what you've been up to. Winter decorating is always fun.
ReplyDeleteThe white decor is pretty, a lovely mantel! Have a happy new week ahead!
ReplyDeleteYour pitchers in a row are impressive abainst the brick and the picture looks like it must be a family treasure.
ReplyDeleteThe mantle is great. Love the pitchers. You have a very large mantle to decorate. Nice that your husband has a good eye and "helps". Yes, I have heard the term.
ReplyDeleteWinter and white speak of austerity and simple lines to me, perfectly exemplified by your white pitchers. How great to have your very own renaissance man. Mine is a man of many talents, but I wouldn't classify him exactly renaissance!
ReplyDeleteWinter white is very soft and soothing Your mantel arrangement looks very pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to Mosaic Monday Dotsie.
ReplyDeleteI think I avoid white in my house because we have so many months of it.....I have color everywhere instead, but your white is lovely....mine not so much right now as we are being hit with another major storm.
ReplyDeleteI adore your mantel...just pinned it. :)
ReplyDeleteI like your creamy whites very much. It's lovely to be married to a Renaissance Man!
ReplyDeleteYour "white" mantle is so lovely, Dotsie. The pitchers really stand out in front of the brick no nicely...what a great way to display them. I also really like the white surround. My fireplace was a dark brick before I white-washed it a couple of years back...some days I am not real happy with it.
