It's hard for me to leave soup alone. Today when we came home from church I had no meal planned
so I found a can of corn chowder and started to heat it on the stove. First of all I added
a package of salmon. Then I dug around in the frig to see what else I could find.
And I added: several dollops of sour cream (at the end) and cottage cheese, some grated
cheddar cheese, 1/2 can left over black beans, left-over broccoli chopped, white wine,
and a couple of drops of oil seasoned with basil and another with hot pepper. It was hearty and so,
so good. But the Gardener commented that the one problem with such a
soup is I never make it quite the same again. That's right, it all depends on the frig.

Your soup sounds delicious.. Now, I am craving some salmon. The oils looks like a great addition to a recipe.. Have a happy week ahead!
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought of adding salmon to my soups for a protein - I'm sure the canned would be fine. What a good idea Dotsie! I'm afraid most of my soup recipes come out of my head too with what's on hand - soup surprise maybe? :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking to Mosaic Monday.
Oh, your soup and salad sound and look really delicious! On the minus side: I became really hungry now...
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing & Have a lovely new week!
I once read that one cannot make a good soup in a "willy nilly" way. One must follow a formula--a recipe. I am proof that it is not true. So are you! This soup looks delicious. The Gardener is, of course, right but who would want to miss that once-in-a-lifetime bowl of goodness!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Every new soup's a hodgepodge treasure! :)
ReplyDeleteI am not one to experiment with recipes. I've never had any success in doing so. Yours sounds yummy, though (except for the cottage cheese!)
ReplyDeleteSoups are favorites, especially in winter, in our house, too. I do the same thing, adding this and that, knowing I should write down what I put in, so if it is a success I can replicate it.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, Dotsie.
That sounds good.

That sounds so yummy and heart warming on a cold day.
ReplyDeleteYou can't go wrong with a hearty soup on a cold day. I think those oils look yummy, too! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteIt does sound yummy! I made beef veg to have for supper tomorrow. Snow is heading our way! Hope all is well.

Your soup sounds great. I love opening the fridge and coming up with ways to use bits and pieces of leftovers. ♥
ReplyDeleteI love soups! I am sure I would have liked yours!
ReplyDeleteSoup is the best in a pinch. And you have such a delightful way of spicing it up. I cook rther the same way--a bit of that a dash of that, whatever left overs I can find or what happens to be on hand. I enjoyed reading houw you make soup. Good soup.
ReplyDeleteOh Podso, this is so something that I would do and your soup sounds so yummy. Last week I opened up a carton of Organic Black Bean Soup, but it did not look like it was going to make 2 full bowls of soup for the husby and me. I had a container of homemade Butternut Squash soup and put that into the pot as well. We also had shrimp the evening before and I had placed 6 in freezer for a later time. I pulled them out, did a quick thaw. sliced them up and into the soup they went. A dash of this and dash of that, and not a drop of soup was left in either bowl. And no I will never get it the same again ;)
ReplyDeleteYour creation looks sooooo good, Dotsie!! I have to chuckle... there is never an exact repeat of any "recipe" here either! LOL! Just whatever happens to be on hand... and whatever whim strikes... It's all good. blessings and hugs ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteThat one sounds like one that should be written down as you have done here! I have served a number of those "one of a kind" meals. The good thing with John is that he doesn't pay a lot of attention. As long as the meal is hot, he is happy.
ReplyDeleteYep, you had me at salmon! Sounds delicious. I add lots of stuff too, but have never added salmon nor sour cream. I see that I need to get more adventurous!
ReplyDeleteThat looks really tasty! I have never had salmon in soup before but I would be willing to give it a try. Nothing like a good old homemade concoction, never to be duplicated again...lol!
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious, Podso! I like fish chowder and so I would have loved this. I also like flavored oils--these look great!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem....the whatever I find meal that I can't seem to make the same way again...but it is fun and creative.
ReplyDeleteOh your soup looks so yummy Dotsie - I've stored your idea in the food section of my brain!
ReplyDeleteI will make it in our autumn winter.
Oh my goodness, those oils look wonderful! I went to an oil and vinegar store in Seattle yesterday. They had bread and you would dip it in the and try them all. I came home with a chili garlic balsamic vinegar. Your soup really does look wonderful. It is a cold day today, so I put on a bean soup for the Super Bowl with smoked ham hawks. Hopefully it will be half as good as yours looks~
ReplyDeletesounds and looks delicious!
