The time arrived for the last gathering of our mentorship group called Merea. It is hard to believe that two years could pass by so quickly.
For our final evening we had a meal together … heavy and not so heavy hors d'oeuvres that we older women had made. Delicious! And as always, we gave the younger women, or "girls" as we call them, copies of the recipes we used.
We also played a game where they had to guess which of us liked what thing, sort of a trivia game, or "how well do you know your mentors?" It ended up being a lot of fun mainly because we laughed so much. We mentors sang our old songs and the girls did a good job of guessing who had been to a Peter, Paul and Mary concert, etc.
We surely will miss our girls, but after a summer off, we begin another two years with a new group.
What a wonderful group that must have been. It's never easy to "end."
ReplyDeleteI am getting ready to pass my Membership Chair from our civis women's club - been on the board for five out of our 7 years.....it's a bittersweet but I am ready for a reprieve.
I am glad you enjoyed yourselves- laughter is just too rare these days.
The "girls" will probably miss you all more! Do some of them usually become friends with each other and maintain a friendship?
ReplyDeleteSounds very bittersweet, though I am sure you will somehow keep in touch. Blessings, Catherine
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it must be hard to say goodbye after getting to know the girls so well but a new group will be coming along to capture your hearts all over again.
ReplyDeleteThe mentoring is such an admirable thing you ladies do.
As I have told you many times, I love the concept of the "older" women teaching the "younger"...exactly how Scripture says it should be! I am sure that it was a bittersweet parting, but your hearts will remain knitted together in intangible bonds. It is nice to imagine such a lovely gathering, filled with love and laughter!
ReplyDeleteOh this all sounds so sad. Is it a true parting or will you continue to see one another?
ReplyDeleteI love this! Mentoring is such an important thing. I just know that you all will remain forever in the hearts of these "girls" that you mentored!
ReplyDeleteDeanna
Everything looks so nice. I love that you all took so much time over 2 years with those "younger" ladies. The next group will be so blessed!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely and I have never heard of such a group. It would be such fun to make new relationships, get to know each other and then develop other friendships following that...very nice~
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful program. How incredible to inspire others and I know you gained a lot from the experience, too. Everything looks so beautiful and elegant. Enjoy your week! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteSweet!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful mentoring program. Is it something your group came up with, or does it follow a book or other program?
ReplyDeleteLaughing together is such great medicine!
It looks lovely. I'm sure the girls will fondly remember their wonderful mentors of the past two years.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of this...what an impact you ladies must have made on these young women! And the spread looks wonderful! Oh my...those round thingys with the dallop of whatever in the middle look heavenly!
ReplyDeleteThat is an absolutely lovely idea, Dotsie! The 'How well do you know your mentor' sounds like fun too. You'll probably enjoy the little break and be ready for the new group.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like such a good thing to do (mentoring) and a fun way to end the session.
ReplyDeleteFunny that we may have been in Charleston the same day ....we could have enjoyed tea together!
Take care,
Carolyn
Podso,
ReplyDeleteTruly a bittersweet evening!
Thank you for sharing this Mentorship group with us!
Fondly,
Pat
Aww, things coming to an end, not easy and just sad. One wonderful thing, so many awesome memories! Nothing like having the young and the old together, great times.
ReplyDeletehow connected you must all be by now
ReplyDeleteThis is so precious, and now the seed that were sown in love will grow, and be harvested, and then resown by the harvested seed, I find this so amazing.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine the sadness of saying "goodbye", Thank you for sharing.
Blessings,
Sue
Dotsie, I'm always fascinated when you write about your mentoring group; I think this is SUCH a GREAT project for everyone concerned! Is this something you do through your church? It would be great to know that there are lots of mentoring groups like yours in existence out there, because I don't hear of many these days. I admire you ladies so much for doing this.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a delicious meal and enjoyed fun fellowship that evening. Thank you for sharing!
Hugs,
Denise
