There are many reasons we blog and just as many types of blogs. I've noticed recently that when we at home talk about something that has happened in recent years I tend to go to the handy search engine on my blog for some help in recall. I guess over the years it has become a sort of very general diary of not all, but some of the events in our lives. I've also printed my blog and some have asked me how I did that. It's as easy (almost) as snapping your fingers. The only drawback is the cost. But the way I pour over anything I find that past generations have written, it's my hope that future generations might get a kick out of reading about their ancestors' early 21st century lives.
And someday, if I ever slow down, I hope to sit back and enjoy a read
(and view) on the past. I used Blog2Print and my only advice is to save money
by not printing a table of contents because that takes up many (costly) pages.
But there's another kind of book I want to mention and that is a blog give away I won at
Aiken House and Gardens. I've admired Carolyn's blog and photography for quite a
few years, so I was thrilled when my name was drawn to receive one of her new photo books.
This was called Afternoon Tea and is simply delightful. Some of the photos look familiar
but many are new to me. It's really pure "eye candy" (as is her blog) and of course this blue
and white page (below) is one of my favorites. If you haven't visited her blog to see
her wonderful house and gardens, you really should.
Her blog reminds me of a magazine many of us love
that starts with "V." Thank you Carolyn!
Oh she does have a beautiful blog...I zipped off and nearly got lost over there. I'll go back and wander about some more. Thank you for the information about Blog2Print. I know this blog to be a beauty, too.
ReplyDeleteI always love it when fellow bloggers recommend blogs. How smart of you to print off your blog posts into books. I think sometimes about losing my blog posts - they are a sort of diary - one that is meant to be read by others, but a recounting of life as I lived it, too. (I do back up my blog onto my hard drive once in very long whiles.)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the book win. I'm off to explore.
I do the same thing! My blog is like a diary. So you print in book form your blog? Do you do that on a yearly basis? Interesting concept.
ReplyDeleteI am pleased to read that you have printed off your blog, or portions to for future generations. You have always shared interesting stories of your early married life and living in other parts of the world which I have enjoyed reading, and hope all your little ones will one day too.
ReplyDeleteI have Carolyn's previous two books and will have to order this one too, for as we all agree, who needs magazines any more? Congrats on winning a copy Dotsie.
Yay for blog books! Our kids love looking back at them.
ReplyDeleteI think that sounds like a really neat idea to print one's blog off into a book. It would take a lot of work and time. I will look into it but doubt I'd do it. I saw that you won Carolyn's book and I know you will enjoy it over and over. Her blog is really beautiful isn't it? Very Victorian. :)
ReplyDeleteI would so love to have some of my favorite posts printed in a book! I'll check on this site and think about it. LOVE Afternoon Tea! I'm so glad you shared some pages with us. She is such a sweet lady with a beautiful home...and blog! Enjoy your week! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway! I recently visited Aiken House and Garden, and found it to be a beautiful blog.
ReplyDeleteI am intrigued by the idea of making book(s) from my blog for family history. Such a great idea. Do you do one book per year?
Podso,
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled that you are continuing your Blog Books, dear friend!!!
Truly, a piece of history for future generations!
I agree, Carolyn's book does bring to mind one of my favored magazines!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Fondly,
Pat
I also love THAT magazine you mention, that starts with a V. I will have to check out that blog.
ReplyDeleteBeen missing in action for some time now. Hope that things get a bit less hectic so that I can return to my normal activities.

I turned my first Blog (Freedom in Christ) into a book--my first (and only) published book! It sits on my bookshelf along with other authors :-). My newer Blogs, however, don't lend themselves to the printed page because of the links to music and other sites, so I've been saving each post as a PDF on my computer which then is backed up on my Back Up disk. This way I can export it to a CD and have all the links intact. It's an easy, inexpensive way to save a Blog. I looked at Carolyn's Blog. I can only imagine her energy! With 7 children, 9 grandchildren, and her beautiful Blog photos! I can't allow myself to follow such a Blog because I have enough to do just to keep up with my own garden and house--I don't need anymore ideas! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful book!! I love Aiken House & Gardens blog, too. A couple of years ago, I looked into making parts of my blog into a book, and yes....really expensive. I just heard about something yesterday, though, that might work and supposedly is very affordable and/or almost FREE! It's called Blurb Booksmart...I think. I haven't checked it out at all, but a friend used it, so I'm sure it's a safe site! Congrats on doing the ones you made. That really is a great item to leave future generations!
ReplyDeleteCarolyn's home is gorgeous and I love every single photo she shows.
ReplyDeleteLucky you!
Now I have to check out Blog2Print.
Congratulations on your win, this looks like a great book! I agree about the blog being like a journal, sometimes I look back over past post and am reminded of special moments. Thanks for the link on gathering the posts and having them printed.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Sue
I'm going to check into having a blog printed. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you.
I've not stopped at the blog you mention but will have to do that. That looks like a wonderful giveaway you won! I've thought about printing my blog but suspect it would cost a fortune due to all my photos. So fun to know that someone has done this!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the kind words on my blog and book! I love the reference to the V magazine.....my favorite!
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Carolyn
