Here is the subject for Donna's photo challenge this month. Its an old chair the Gardener found for me, and sits out in the garage on my project list. (I think I may be the only person in the world who does not recover chairs, or at least know how.) I saw it sitting in the morning sun the other day and had to snap a photo with my phone. The little jar contains the original hobnails (?) to fasten the fabric.
I do like to play with some of the photo editing programs out there so have done this before. I can't remember what all I used this time, but I do like the ink or pencil sketch type of editing which you see in #4 of the mosaic. The entire exercise turned messy when suddenly none of the finished products would download to my desktop. I've used these for years and then this week they stopped working. One site kindly told me I needed to upgrade my search engine but I don't even see Safari 7 to upgrade to. Meanwhile I took screen shots to get them to my desktop.
This last one may be my favorite (from ipiccy)
It may have some "grunge" on it!
Be challenged by visiting Donna's Photo Challenge blog and see
what others have done. There's some real talent out there!
I'm a member of your "never covered a chair and don't know how" club! Maybe if we ever cover a chair we could have a meeting!!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
A chair of many faces. We tried to recover dining room chairs once and ended up having them done professionally.
ReplyDeleteI think we've all had fun with this challenge.
Judith
They are all nicely done but I'm with you! LOVE the last one! Colorful!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful job!

A grunge texture is perfect for that old chair! Great choice - it gives the photo a more artsy feel. It is amazing how easy it is to do digital transformations using free online digital programs. I have many listed over on this blog's sidebar, so have fun exploring them!
ReplyDeleteI really love the grunge texture, too and the pencil sketch is always so much fun! Great job on the challenge...and a beautiful chair, too!
ReplyDeleteOh I want that chair, I love it as well, and I can see it painted with a soft ecru kind of beige colour and then covered with a light mocha velvet, or maybe even a nice pink and silver striped fabric...gorgeous. I have no idea how to cover anything either, but I would be doing my work on that chair ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your old chair. It can look beautiful with some paint and a new cover. I love the last photo with the grunge look on it. It suits the chair perfectly!
ReplyDeleteI really like the collage of four different textured looks - it's a very interesting chair. Perhaps you can give it a new life and use it indoors, I think it's not going to enjoy spending Winter in the cold garage!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job - have a lovely weekend.
Mary
Interesting, that's a sweet little chair to use in this exercise.
ReplyDeleteWonderful how you did the collage showing different approaches. I like the grunge best!
ReplyDeleteThats a pretty little chair and the needlepoint seat would tempt me to buy it too. I have such a weakness for vintage chairs...good thing our home isn't bigger. I would pack more in here, then again it would be enjoyable. I like your photo options too....fun!
ReplyDeleteWell, first of all, I love love love the chair. I think I like the last one best too.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I like that last one best too.
ReplyDeleteI love old "anything" and the chair is awesome! Great textures!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love to happen upon a picture like this? When the sun is hitting it just right and you know it would make a good picture. Great job. I like the top right one in the collage. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThese are great pictures, Dotsie! Your photo of the old chair worked so well with many of the effects. (I, too, am a fan of the pencil sketch effect. Once, Kati made a coloring book for her nephew's birthday using family photos altered in that way. It was a hit!)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is yours...the grunge. :)
wow, you did an amazing job on this challenge. love it.
ReplyDeleteI like the sketch effect too. Good job.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous chair!
ReplyDeleteI love your final shot - it looks like you've restored it!
The mosaic is fantastic - it can be so frustrating working with some of these programs - I can easily get tied in knots at times too!!

What a lovely old chair- it really has character! I like all your effects but I too like the last one best. (I've never covered a chair either, and don't ever plan to... Photography is so much more fun)
ReplyDeleteYour chair is a perfect photography subject. Love the touch of grunge and the various ways you played with the photo. Too bad that the program didn't work the way it should have.
ReplyDeleteI did my first chairs this past summer. It was a lot of work and I'm not planning on taking it up as my new career.
