Windows, doors, arches, narrow winding roads, umbrellas ... these all caught my eye when
we were in Germany for a few days (with quick hops into France and Switzerland.)
It seems I was always gazing upward to see windows up high with cheery window boxes overflowing with vibrant flowers. I only once saw someone actually caring for the flowers,
but they all obviously have tender attention.
The gray-shuttered window is where we slept and is in a flat over a butcher shop. The busy street sounds lulled me to sleep. I pretended it was a radio, which often puts me to sleep at home.
The inside of our friend's black umbrella was such a surprise.
Out came my camera!
Joining Mary's Little Red House for Monday Mosaics.
Beautiful flowers that are lovingly tended by unseen hands.

After all these years and all the places we've been, I have to say that the window boxes in Germany are the prettiest in the world!
ReplyDeleteI love window boxes and those windows look so nice, especially the arched ones. I would love to visit Germany one day.
ReplyDeletePretty shots of the window and the flower boxes. Beautiful memories to keep and remind you of your trip. Have a happy week!
ReplyDeleteI like the window boxes, definitely a European trend as are shutters I think because they all have them.
ReplyDeleteDecorative or functional?
Judith
The flowers are just beautiful in the window boxes. I would be looking up, too! Beautiful photos! Looks like you had a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeleteLove all the windowboxes. It must be so colourful to see them. Valerie
ReplyDeletePodso,
ReplyDeleteLovely window boxes. . .oh, dear friend, how I do remember!!! One of the nicest compliments I received while living in Europe was the unique color combination of my choice of floral hues in our window box. I chose pink, purple and yellow!!! Striking!!! Many nods and smiles from my German Nationalist neighbors!
Thanks for sharing these photos of the shuttered windows!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Lovin you had the eye and talent to see these things, and then share them with all of us.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful trip, you are so blessed to have been able to travel.
Have a wonderful week. Hugs.
I have a weakness for flower boxes, so you can imagine this post of yours! My heart has melted, my mouth cannot close, and my eyes have not blinked...it's all too stunning!

ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful window boxes that look all the more delightful for being in THOSE windows. Sweet curtains, too. I like the green on the underside of the umbrella and wonder if they ever do sky blue.
ReplyDeleteLovely -- I'd be gazing up too. What a neat trip.
ReplyDeleteWow! I didn't know you had gone abroad for a holiday! What fun to see such cheerful sights!
ReplyDeleteYour window box photos are so pretty - I have to agree with Pondside about German/Swiss/Austrian window boxes. I remember them well and have a few photos of them in my archives, too.

ReplyDeleteI love that look! I've wondered if there is a way to add shutters and a flower box to my front windows. You must have had a wonderful time. I'd love to visit overseas.

ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful window photos! I'm always looking up at windows and the tops of old buildings. Architecture is one of my favourite subjects.
ReplyDeleteI love window boxes. When I was in Ireland a few years back I saw beautiful lush flowers all hanging down from so many window boxes. They looked so pretty. I once saw a man with a hose on a very long pole watering the plants that were hanging from the light posts.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely windows you captured, complete with colorful flowers. Oh, I love the green inside of the umbrella too.
