I wonder why we ... that is, at this house, don't have more traditions. We have some,
maybe enough for us ... but traditions are so calming, comforting, securing, and usually fun.
One that the Gardener and I follow on our yearly visits further south to visit family and friends is an early morning breakfast at a pier restaurant.
I'm not talking about anything fancy at all, but you can't beat the view.
Last week we were early enough to be the first and had the pick of any dry seat we could find.
We watched the fishermen at work. Seemed to be a successful morning.
And then, little by little, people filed in to eat as the sun rose higher in the sky.
Time for us to leave and wander further along to another favorite spot. A walk and
a relaxing swing ... I wonder how long I could have stayed there?
i think we have traditions that we don't even recognize as traditions.
ReplyDeletei actually "antiqued" the photos in iPhoto. it was an overcast day.
improving--just want this cast off.
best,

I agree with the above comment.
ReplyDeleteI love the small traditions that don't seem like Big 'T' Traditions. They are the icing on the cake - keep things stuck together very nicely.
Swings? My great-grandmother's house had such a swing and I longed for one all through my childhood. Then I grew up and swinging made me dizzy - but I'd still love a swing to look at!
I find myself nodding in agreement with the above comments. I think all of us have "traditions" that we don't identify as such.
ReplyDeleteI love swings in yards. Swinging seems like a very summery thing to do.
Hello Dotsie
ReplyDeleteSome of the things we do I can recognize as traditions, others are just repetitive comforting actions that perhaps are rituals. Since hubby retired, we have taken to sitting and having coffee in the living room looking out the front window and chatting for about an hour each morning before we go our separate ways. I look forward to this quiet time together.
Your breakfast place looks like somewhere we too would go if it was nearby.
I have a friend with an old Victorian home in town and she has a swing hanging from chains on the long front porch. I've sat there a few times with wine/tea and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Have a great weekend.
Judith
Traditions are very important -- not just big traditions for holidays but little every day traditions as well.
ReplyDeleteLove your breakfast place -- would love to sit there with you and share a meal!
Dotsie,
ReplyDeleteFeels like you were close by! There is just something about a meal with a view!
Carol
Such a nice view of the water... {sigh} I know I'd love that breakfast spot. I love the tradition you have of sharing that early meal... We don't have all that many traditions either, but I cherish the ones we do. LOVE the way you edited the swing photo!! Hope your weekend is a wonderful one. blessings ~ Tanna
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of traditions...some are just silly! I love to stay at the same place when we visit different towns and cities. I love to hit up the same restaurants. There must be a fine line between tradition and habit! lol!
ReplyDeleteI sit on the swing at the lake for hours reading. I have even managed to lie on it!! Love swings!!
Happy weekend!
XO,
Jane
Oh, I love that swing! I would have wanted to linger in it quite awhile and enjoy that pretty view and warm weather.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty place to enjoy a meal! I love to swing, too. Wishing you a blessed weekend.
ReplyDeleteGREAT headliner! Oh my.
ReplyDeleteYou are so good at that. Love the photos of you growing up.
I got a new stamp today in honor of your sister who inspired me with her bookmark. Couldn't find anything close to that girl looking into the laundry basket. Found a line of birds on a telephone line.

ReplyDeleteSounds like my kind of outing. So peaceful! I live a block from the bay, yet I never tire of its beauty, or take it for granted.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a wonderful Sunday!
Love your header!
That sounds like such a lovely liesurly breakfast. I love the last photo of the swing. And I agree, swing time with a view is something we need more of.
