I have a small collection of small teacups. I'm not sure what their original
purpose was ... maybe something like demitasse cups ...
I don't know much about them except that they are perfect to use when children "come to tea."
It's hard to decide which is my favorite. The Royal Albert Sweet Violets that was my
grandmother's just might be top on the list. But then I love the Queen Anne Pink Harvest my sister
found for me at an antique shop. It seems so "mid century."
The sweet teal green with pink flowers was tucked in my suitcase on my way home
from a trip to Romania ... and the pink castle (Johnson Bros,
and another antique shop find) was another
gift from my sister as she knew my love for transferware.
It would be hard to part with any of them ... but probably most difficult
would be my grandmother's violet teacup ...
don't you agree?

I love your tea cup collection and yes, the violet one is very pretty! I have been searching on ebay and antique shops for a tea set to use with my grandchildren. They love to have tea when they are here.
ReplyDeleteI don't necessarily need a matching set but I want something special but not too special that I will be sad if something gets broken. I also want it (my) affordable. I haven't found anything yet but still looking.
Yes, the violet one! I love the little surprise of seeing the violet inside the cup as well.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Oh yes, I love your sweet demitasse teacups. I think the violets would be my favorite too. My mother-in-law had an orange tiger lily one that our daughter had her tea in when she was a little girl and I passed it on to her. I hope she uses it someday. Maybe this next baby will be a girl. :) Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThose little ones coming for tea must love their choices. I do like your grandmother's violet tea cup.
ReplyDeleteYes, the cups are so much smaller than ones now a days but we have super sized everything now! A pretty collection, I love that you brought one home from Romina, a true collector. Laura
ReplyDeleteI think the violet set is also my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI own many small demitasse cup sets that were my Mother-in-law's, and I hardly use them as my husband and I don't drink espresso very often. Now you have given me the idea to use them for future tea parties with my grandsons. I think little boys would enjoy having tea with their teddy bears. :)
So sweet and refined! Picking a favorite tea cup and saucer would be like naming your favorite child. Each tea cup has a sentimental story attached! But I think the violet one is extra special!
ReplyDeleteHow do you display them? They are far too pretty to put away!
Yvonne
They are all so sweet - and what a special thing to do with children! I have three of these cups in regular size - cousins to yours?!
ReplyDeleteThat they are smaller makes them more precious. The kids must love them!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Hi Dotsie..
ReplyDeleteI love your collection of small teacups! I do believe that the little violet teacup that belonged to your grandmother is my favorite! Sooo dainty...and sooo pretty! Thanks for sharing your beautiful collection with us, dear friend!
Love ya,
Chari
I can imagine tiny hands holding those delicate tea cups. I wouldn't be able to part with a single one! But the violet one is quite a special treasure!
ReplyDeleteI like the violet one best of all, too. It would be hard to part with it since it was your grandmother's. I love the shape of those Royal Doulton/Albert teacups.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right Dotsie, they're perfect for little hands to have a tea party.
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean, the violet teacup is the miniature of mine.
Judith
Your teacups are delightful!
ReplyDeleteThose are darling little cups and saucers. I have an old uncle from Sweden, he told me that they drank their coffee from those tiny teacups and their tea from large mugs. Interesting, eh?
ReplyDeleteI love the violet cup and saucer, it's lovely!
Hugs, Cindy
The teacups are beautiful Dotsie.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think Typepad is just plain fickle! Sorry about your comment dilemma at the Back Porch.
Beautiful tea cups...I so prefer drinking from those than mugs...the tea just tastes better!
ReplyDeleteWhat darling, little teacups and just perfect for little ones!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet teacup collection, Dotsie! My eyes went to your g'mas lovely cup. I would never party with that! Thanks so much for sharing this at Let's Dish! Let me know when your first issue of Taste of Home arrives!
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet memories -- and tea cups. Your grandmother's is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteLovely. Your grandmother's is a real treasure!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very pretty collection. My Mammaw had a collection of tiny teacups -- wonder who got them when she passed away? Hope you are having a great week. Best wishes and blessings, Tammy
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I do agree. I have a "thing" for violets on china. :)
ReplyDeleteHow sweet that the children can use these!
Hope you are having a lovely one, Dotsie!
Hugs,
Zuzu
All are so sweet, love the mid century pink...yes, I did say that!
ReplyDeleteI love teacups! I have a small collection myself. I am working on a special project right now with teacups for our church. I will be posting about it on our blog soon! Yours are gorgeous. Isn't it nice to remember the stories behind where you got them? Thank you for sharing. Visiting from "Let's Dish!".
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, I do love them all. I would agree that your grandmother's teacup and saucer is my favorite of them all.
ReplyDeleteThe violets stole my heart. Love them all though. I think it's their diminutive form that makes them so much more appealing.. way cuter than their big sisters.. thanks for sharing.. xo marlis
