We were planning 13 around our table last week ... 13 was a squeeze so I
decided I'd be what I call a "Swedish mom" (not sure where I got that from)
and would not sit at the table but serve everyone.
I'd would just pull up a chair to the side to join in coffee and dessert.
Sometimes I actually prefer that; it seems easier.
But at the last minute one person canceled, so I found myself sitting at the table.
We were pleased to so easily fit 12 around the table, and enjoyed using
the beautiful "pearl-like" poinsettia tablecloth my SIL gave us.
It was cozy, to say the least.
Merry Christmas!

Dotsie, you table was BEAUTIFUL. I especially love the shot from outside the window looking in. I know what you mean about sometimes it seems it would be easier to be the "swedish mom." There always seems to be a little something someone needs. Those plates are perfect Christmas! And, I love the small mason jars with candles nestled in the greenery! I may be stealing that idea for Saturday. Thank you for the inspiration this morning!
ReplyDeleteDotsie,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table. Your pictures are stunning. I love the outside looking in picture.
I hope you and your loved ones have a very Merry Christmas.
Carol
When you are the hostess, you are usually up and down anyways, so I can understand you would want to stand, but so nice to know that you were able to join everyone at the table because of the cancellation. Your Christmas setting is gorgeous. And that soup a few posts back sounds yummy! I love a good soup with some nice hot chunky bread any time of the year. Happy holidays to you and yours! Your header photos are so sweet. Best wishes, Tammy

ReplyDeleteYou set the most beautiful tables!
ReplyDeleteI love the last photo.......reminds me of Little Women, the film, where the girls are snuggled on Marmie's lap to read a letter from their father: the camera comes out through the window just like that!
The table is beautiful. I especially love peeping in the window! The china pattern is one I haven't seen and I think it's wonderful. I am thinking of borrowing your candle idea. I have just the right jars.
ReplyDeleteHave a merry and blessed Christmas.
Best,
Bonnie
Oh Dotsie, what a warm and beautiful holiday table; it looks so FESTIVE and Christmas-y. Like a card -- especially that peek thru the window. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteA Swedish Mom? Too funny -- My own mother, being Norwegian, would probably have joked that a "Swedish Mom" was one who didn't deserve a place at the table!
Glad you got to join the gang.
It's just lovely, the story and the setting.
Merry Christmas!
Cass
I have a real fondness for pictures taken through a window - yours was so evocative...of warmth and welcome on a special day....the curtains, the light - lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful, Dotsie! Very warm & inviting.
ReplyDeleteHope all is merry at your house, and that you have a joyous Christmas!
Hugs,
Zuzu
Yep, the last shot is my favorite as well. LOVE it! :)
ReplyDeleteYou have set a beautiful table! I have a few of those plates but alas not enough to go around our table.
ReplyDeleteI hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.
Carolyn
I'm so glad you got to be part of the group...how sweet you are! I love the last picture above all.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Love those Christmas tree dishes. I think I have the poinsettia tablecloth, too! I got it at The Christmas Tree Shop last year and it's soooo pretty. Susan
ReplyDeletePodso,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tablescape, dear. Your napkins are a nice compliment to the gorgeous tablecloth!I adore the photo from the outside looking in! Merry Christmas, dear!
Fondly,
Pat
So love your table!!! Your last photo was the best. I love your dishes too. Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Podso...Thanks so much for visiting my blog and commenting. Loved having you stop by. Please come to visit anytime. I will always love to have you! Susan
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely setting, and what a lovely post! I, too, sometimes enjoy being a "Swedish Mom" because I can really pay attention to the guests' reactions to everything. It gives one a whole different perspective! I wish for you and yours a very Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThose plates make a beautiful table. Yes it does look cozy and love the shot from outside as well. I should've done the "Swedish Mom thing at Thanksgiving! Never heard it called that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful setting. It almost seems like a Victorian dining room. Have a very Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteOh how pretty! Love your Christmas dishes and your pretty setting. Wonderful photo from the window.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Christmas tablescape. I've found that I can squeeze two at the end of the table if I pull up the piano bench with enough room for an extra. It's great fun for everyone to be at the same table! Thank you for sharing your charming design. Merry Christmas! Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteLove your center piece and dishes. Clever of you to take picture through the window. Merry Christmas
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post -- love the last picture the best. I never heard the term Swedish Mom, but my mother nearly always did it that way.
ReplyDeleteYour table is so beautiful and I'm in love with the photo from outside the window. What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteA very Merry Christmas to you Podso.
Beautiful table, I love the view through the window. I always opt to sit at the bar when the seating is tight, 12 is our max too!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a lovely holiday!
