I don't have a great knowledge about silver stuff. What silver (-plate, most likely) I got for wedding presents, I eventually got rid of. And now, of course, I wish I had them gleaming in my china cabinet. I've always admired my mother's little salt and pepper shakers. And I've wondered why one top was glass and the other silver. Since I'm silver-clueless, I asked her the other day.
"Oh," she answered very matter-of-factly, "Don't you know that salt tarnishes silver?"
As long as my dear mother lives, there will always be something I can learn from her.
First, I'm going to cut and paste your comment and send it to my boys! Ahem, just kidding. I miss my mother's words of wisdom. I will admit that long ago, they sometimes were not so welcome but were almost always wise.
ReplyDeleteWe used to live in Charleston, S.C. so I know that salt tarnishes silver--oh yes! And, if one waited until the last minute to set a table for guests, a big greenish gray surprise awaited them in the silver department.
Hope you have an untarnished day.
Best,
Bonnie
Hi Podso, that is a very interesting fact. Didn't know that.
ReplyDeleteBlue and white china is my favorite. I love your countertops.
It's funny because when I was teaching kindergarten, no matter what the kids created, I found that when I pasted it to a black background and framed it, it looked fantastic.
You are finding the same thing with your granite countertops.
Now I am hoping that black takes off those extra pounds I gained over the summer. HA!
Hope you are having a great day. :) Tammy
I had no idea!! Learn something new everyday :)

ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
I had no idea! :)
ReplyDeleteI learned by error - my salt shaker became a solid mass:(
ReplyDeleteGotta love Mum's knowledge.

I learned something too...had no idea!
ReplyDeleteDo you think we will ever seem that wise to our children? Since I didn't know that, probably not (for me). LOL
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Mom for me too, ok? Mine has gone on to glory. I have seen how corroded metal gets from salt, come to think of it.
ReplyDeleteI just spent some time with my mum - lots of wisdom passed on every time we're together.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know it. Moms are great aren't they? Glad you get to have her around.
ReplyDeleteSo true! My mom is in her late eighties but iu am still learning new things from her! :)
ReplyDeleteClueless here too about silver. It is precious you still have your mom for such sage advise.
ReplyDeletere post...my kids are moving out on Saturday...I think I will be a week at putting this place back together =|
