taking a risk

Risk seems to be in all our lives to one degree or another.
Goodness, we take risks just crossing the street or driving to the market.
If given a choice, I don't often choose risk.
But recently I "threw caution to the wind" and had a chair recovered.
It's hard for me to believe it's the first time I've done such a thing.
Before.
A friend passed on this chair to us years ago.
It's sturdy and comfortable and just doesn't wear out.
But it needed a facelift.
A drawback to the whole deal was finding fabric.
Decisions aren't easy for me.
So I took the Gardener with me to a small fabric shop with
 an underwhelming number of choices.
I place more value on "manageable" than "overwhelming."
There was, of course, a huge sale.
I had gone earlier in the week and found some "likes."
Of course the Gardener didn't want to spend much time
so I hurried the choice (and prayed!)
And when the long roll of cloth came home with us …
the second guesses came along with it.
Depending on the light it could even look a tad dirty…
Oh my.
Determined to be happy with it I called the the upholsterers to come.
And I loved that three generations rang the bell and came into the house,
from grandpa (paperwork) to father (mover of chair) to daughter in braces and braids (PR and smiles.)
A great team.

  9. It's a beautiful chair, Podso. I love the fabric. I would like to have our old rocker/recliner recovered, but the choosing of fabric always stops me.
    Your disclaimer is cute!

  11. Nicely done!! I've had our living room furniture done entirely once but the sofa has been reupholstered 3 times. I just can't part with this furniture. Have a grand week!

  12. Oh, it looks like you made a fine choice!! I am happy that you love it! Choosing fabrics/furniture (or a paint color) is tough. Ron always dreads when we have to make such decisions because he knows it will not be an easy process. You were very kind to your husband!

Your chair is beautiful against the wall color and beside that gorgeous wood table!

P.S. Love the picture of the three-generation upholstery team!

  14. Great choice, perfect choice! I really like that fabric and think it makes the chair look "updated" and timeless at the same time. I have two wing chairs in the family room that need reupholstering but, since I doubt I'll be able to find another fabric that will blend with the other chair and sofa in the room, I'll probably have to do that chair and sofa as well. Wonder if I'll be able to find two fabrics I like as well as the old ones. I should take you along!

  15. I love the elegant brocade you chose to update your friend's chair. I mad the mistake of giving away a very comfortable Danish chair to friends once and they had it recovered . It was so amazing and the centrepiece of their very modern family room. I wished for it back but was so glad to see they saw it's potential and loved it so much. Our treasured living room chair is one purchased by my father after the war and given to me along with the cost of recovering it twenty two years ago. Anything that has lasted that long deserves special treatment.

  16. The fabric really does seem to go with that style chair. I love those soft colors and think it would match my bedroom! heehee! Maybe I need a pillow in that design. Enjoy your week! Hugs, Diane

  17. It looks great. I always tell my clients give it some time before you decide you truly don't like it. I have never had a client come back a month later and say they didn't. Because it is different from what you are use to it takes time. We all seem to question change. It looks great...good for you, enjoy!!!

  18. Smiling here because I relate so well to your whole process with this project ;) And, if you hadn't mentioned the change of chairs I never would have noticed. The only difference I now see is the legs. Thanks for brightening my day!
P.S.: The choice of fabric is fabulous.

  20. Dotsie, I love the fabric and the chair. Isn`t terrific to have a business these days still investing in the next generation and working together. That is very heart warming. I`m glad it was worth stretching into new comfort levels. Thanks for sharing. Sylvia D.

  28. Pretty fabric Dotsie, I totally love anything in blue and in brocade and perfectly done by professionals.
We had a wing back chair that was hubby's grandpa, but now it's our DD Sofia's.
Thanks for popping in to see me, you sure make my day dear friend and yes, your little ones must be big too. My older grandgirl is 11 and taller then me! The second grandgirl was 9 and I hosted her party while visiting us.
    Have a blessed week.
