"If walls could talk, we've often thought, what stories they would tell.
"But if we're slow to grasp the message of an open front door,
a clean-scrubbed floor, or a hand-made object comfortable with its age
and imperfections, perhaps we're not listening well.
"The language of a house is visual.
"The soul of a house is memory. And it speaks to the heart."

Beautiful quotes to ponder, Dotsie. Lovely treasures you have featured. The books look well loved---a history buff in the house, I see. ♥
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt many, including me, would feel right at home, and welcomed, in your house!
ReplyDeleteSuch beauty in a home where love is... Your parents? Now that is a wonderful picture and I do like the pink gown. I have been doing what others say they do when I post bookcases...looking at the titles and authors. =D
ReplyDeleteHow many times have we all pondered 'if walls could talk'? Not only does love make a home, and I hadn't thought of this before, but the quote is accurate in saying the soul of a house is memories.
ReplyDeleteI like the quilted teapot - have a good week Dotsie.
Love this!

You love your home, that is very evident. These are wonderful quotes about the tremendous impact a home has. That's a beautiful photo of ...your parents?
ReplyDeleteThat is something I am almost happy to not have - talking walls. : - )
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. Lovely post - and your images are wonderful.

I'm wondering if this is the origin of the well used quote? I really love the second line about the open door and well scrubbed floors. Some us us still do that but refer to it differently. And we are sometimes made to feel that we shouldn't take these sort of things seriously---'keep it real'. i don't buy into it. I should have been a part of the era where women wore aprons and cooked and scrubbed and had a squeaky clean home. I think it's now called anal. How awful. What do you think, Dot?

Dotsie, I love the thought in this post. In fact, I'm copying that last line for my scrapbook I'm making of my house. We've been here 34 ½ years. I have photos that the 2nd owner gave me that came from the 1st owner, so I have a visual history of it. The second owners remodeled and we did, too, so the house has changed quite a bit. My house changed as my family grew, so the pictures through the years bring memories that speak to my heart!
ReplyDeleteEvery one of these mosaics is beautiful! I love the sentiment also. So true. Blue, by the way, isn't always my favorite, but I really love the blues of that mosaic! The first mosaic just glows. Inspires me to go clean and polish something. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely... Your mosaics perfectly illustrate each part of the quote.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh...your house tells a very pleasant story!! I love those thoughts from Simple Country Pleasures, and I love the warm and welcoming photos of your house!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I would be right at home in your house. Leave the light on....I'll be right over! hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful images! I'd definitely enjoy sipping tea from your pretty teacups in your lovely home.
ReplyDeleteI used to enjoy that column in the CL magazine. Yes, if walls could talk. :) I love the old brown jug in the first mosaic and your china. In the 3rd mosaic is a blue and white jar with a lid. I have a very similar one that was my grandmothers but have no idea how old it is. It has no marking on the bottom other than a thin double circle around in inside edge. Do you know anything about the history of yours? Mine came to me filled with rose potpourri which is still in it.
ReplyDeleteMore photo awesomeness. And hey, there are my pretty pink plates. ;) Ha!
ReplyDeleteThe beautiful photo lower right says even more than the walls, though they would have many sweet stories, I am sure~
ReplyDeleteAnd it speaks of loveliness!
