a butterfly in fall

From a cocoon forth a butterfly
     As lady from her door
     Emerged--a summer afternoon--
     Repairing everywhere.
Without design, that I could trace.
    Except to stray abroad
    On miscellaneous enterprise
    The clovers understood….
from "The Butterfly's Day" by Emily Dickenson
Photo by my sister, butterfly in her fall Florida garden

  6. Emily Dickinson's poems are especially meaningful to me because I've read several books about her and her family. When you put the pieces of her life together, the dashes she left at the end of her lines (instead of periods) become filled with meaning----

Your sister's photographs are a "mosaic" in themselves.

  7. We have planted some Milk Weed so the Monarchs have a place to lay their eggs for the little ones to munch on.

  9. Lovely poem to go with your sister's photos! Monarchs are so colorful. I didn't see any on their migration south this year. ♥

  13. Gone south for the winter, lucky butterfly. I've read that Mexico is reporting an increase in numbers of monarchs this year - yay!
Thank you to your sister for her photos.

  14. Such a pretty butterfly on those pink flowers. It looks like warm sunshine there. Here it's dark and rainy. Good for the butterflies heading south.

  15. So beautiful to see! We didn't have many here this year for some reason so I hope they return next year. As Judith said above, they might make a comeback.
