I've gotten pretty good at texting. I like it because it's almost always read where
you don't always know about an email. I'm amazed at how quickly my fingers
now fly over those little keys.
(Checking it over is a must before sending for sure.)
It's quick and efficient. I've never liked talking on the phone, and you can communicate
and get a lot accomplished through texting.
It allows the recipient to read it when they have time, rather than being
interrupted by a phone call. If I had to do a phone call instead of each text,
I'd get so much less done in a day … and probably go "batty."
I looked back at my texts this week before I cleared some away.
They included a question about breastfeeding; a recipe; "Love you" from one son
and picture of the grands from the other; quick discussion with my sister about a movie;
update on a sick friend; cancelation of a coffee date; a question about
table decorations . . . and more.
I'm a huge fan of texting, too, for the very reasons you've shared.
ReplyDeleteThat Lego get well is one of the dearest things I've seen and heard about. What kindness from a brother.

Such a sweet story. :) I have a texting story of my own. A couple of months ago, I was texting both our priest and my husband at the same time. As 'luck' would have it, I forgot to look at the name at the top of my phone, and was just chatting away with our priest, thinking it was Gary. Fortunately I didn't say anything 'fresh' like I would my husband, but was more teasing than I wished I'd been. Funny thing, our priest and I get along better now. Guess it broke the ice. But you're right. Pays to re-read. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful idea.
ReplyDeleteI got my first iPhone this Spring when our son was in the hospital so I could communicate quickly with the rest of the family. Before I had a phone that I had to tap a key 3 times sometimes to get to the letter I wanted. You are right about emails not always being seen. When I text my sons I know they will look at it immediately. Wonderful invention!
ReplyDeleteI am nodding my head with all of your reasons to love texting!! (If I did not still own an antiquated phone with number pad only --eek!!-- , I'd text a lot more.)
ReplyDeleteThe Lego "get well" is an ingenious and thoughtful idea!
I want it all--phone calls, e-mails and texting!! I would, however, text more if my fingers were smaller!! I've tried the "voice" texting but must not speak clearly enough because there are lots of mistakes.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
That Lego card is such a clever idea! And yes, I like texting too, for the same reasons you do. I just wish more of my friends would jump onto the texting bandwagon. One seems to think that you can't text complete words, and I'm one who's proof that texting shortcuts don't have to be observed! Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteAwwww...sweet brother!
ReplyDeleteI have learned to like texting, too. It is a time saver.
Texting does save some time, as long as the person you are texting reads it. Sometimes I just have to pick up the phone and call to hear a voice.
ReplyDeleteDotsie, I must be one of the last people on the planet that does not text. My children can't believe that their Mom refuses to text. I do believe I'm old school. Oh I really like the Lego card--so sweet. ♥
ReplyDeleteTexting has its advantages for sure but sometimes I want to speak to someone on the phone when there's lots to discuss. I can't do it with my thumbs though, do you Dotsie?
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet 'card'!! A light at the end of the tunnel, except your friend has so much more ahead. Sending good wishes.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the texting bandwagon, too. Like you I don't like to chat on the phone long and because of my hearing loss, it's always difficult. it may sound impersonal to some but I know that my kids are busy at work and can't be interrupted to talk on the phone. And sometimes it is just a quick question.
Thanks for stopping by today. Sending warm wishes to you and your beautiful family for a Happy Thanksgiving!

I too find this a great way to communicate. I'm loving it.
ReplyDeleteOh I text more than talk, however, I do miss hearing my adult children's voices, since that is the only form of communication they use. This with legos is the best, I must remember that. Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteSome people bemoan the lack of personal calls, but I think technology allows us the time to connect with people we might not take the time to call. My birthday was last Monday and I received texts from former students. They would never have taken the time to make a phone call, but they had no problem sending me a quick message. I do hope they didn't do it during class!
ReplyDeleteHi Dotsie, I love the "Get Well" card -- how unique is that? :) The pic of your grands is so cute! You're way ahead of me by being able to type texts quickly; that's one thing I can't do. LOL. Those keys are just too tiny for me to manage quickly. I used to type really fast when I did it for a living, but these days, my fingers often have trouble hitting the right keys, even on the computer keyboard.
ReplyDeleteI must catch up on reading your other posts when I'm feeling better; I'm hoping that will be sooner rather than later. Thanks for your visit, my friend!
Hugs,
Denise
What is it about phone calls...I hate to make them, too, and I agree with you that sending a text allows the person to read and respond at their convenience. If someone calls me, I love to talk with them, but don't ask me to make a call! I am much more comfortable when I let my fingers do the talking. And definitely, it's easier to communicate with the younger generation via text. Feel free to text me anytime!
ReplyDeleteTexting is a convenient way to communicate, but I confess that I don't always keep my phone handy, so sometimes it's hours before I read a text. I figure if it's really important someone will call. The Lego card is a wonderful idea - such a creative and loving older brother!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I'd do without texting with my daughter nearly every day!! Between that and FaceTime I get to know what she and our grandsons are up to regularly. Your friend's little fella did a beautiful thing for his sister. Really sweet. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeletePodso,
ReplyDeleteYou're w a y ahead of me, dear friend!!!
I don't text. . .I still use my "flip" phone!!!
I know the day is coming, but for now, I'm content with my current "style"!!!
Sorry about your friend's "break", but what an adorable and thoughtful "Get Well" card!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Fondly,
Pat
