stillness

Donna speaks of telling stories with our still life photos.
All these "stills" were taken with my point and shoot during a recent visit to my sister's house.
I love this one because of the peek at the highchair in the corner.
Now quiet, but patiently waiting to be used by her grandchildren on their visits.
I love that she keeps the vintage wallpaper up in the guest room. A shelf there is filled with
interesting old things, including this elegant little purse sitting so quietly now.
It begs questions from us that will never be answered, but we can guess.
The weddings, balls, banquets it may have been to . . .
The corner cupboard filled with favorite things and family heirlooms.
Always a pleasure to view.

Joining Donna's Photo Challenge today, for the still life challenge.

  1. Great pictures. The first picture does evoke some stories - the highchair in the corner, the imagined view outside the window. And the picture with the purse - I can smell the "old house" smell just looking at the purse and the wallpaper, and can hear many more stories being told. And who doesn't hear a gaggle of female relatives whenever they see a group of teacups!

  2. Your pics are so good, each telling a story of your family. I can imagine a little one tucked into that high chair - and it's taken at a great angle partly viewed through the etched glass plate. The teacups and plates etc. are beautiful - and the tiny lamp does such a nice job illuminating everything inn the cabinet. My favorite is the evening bag 'slouched' against the pretty vintage wallpaper - I can feel the weight of it and yes, surely it attended many memorable functions, carrying a pretty handkerchief, perhaps opera glasses, and a rosy pink lipstick!!!

Nice job - wasn't it a fun challenge!

  6. I especially love the old evening bag!!!! Mmmmm, what delightful stories could be woven, about that. :-)))

I recently did a sort-of-similar post... About telling a story, based on the old painting, which I was using for my Header, at that time.

It's so nice to come up with a different take, on something we post about. Keeps us on our toes. ,-)

  11. Your photos tell lovely stories, Dotsie! Glimpses of the past with the purse, and at the present/future with the high chair and fruit. Teacups and dishes always evoke family and friends gathered round. Lovely tales.

  14. Oh, I can tell that you put some thought into this assignment! Love the thought of the high chair in the background of the first one. It says that children can be in residence! The scene in the corner cupboard speaks of a cozy home. And the second one is my favorite. A simple and powerful composition. Even the way the vintage purse slumps and leans adds to the story! Well done, sweetie!

  26. My favorite photo is the last one--looking into the lighted cabinet makes me feel I'm looking into someone's much-loved home through a lighted window as I pass by.
