Laughter is good medicine, even when sadness is squeezing my heart. When I was going through some of my mother's things this week, I found her lipstick and thought, "I can just bring this home and use it." I opened it to see how much remained.
Have you ever seen the funny chart that shows lipsticks and what personality traits they portray? I was simply amazed at my mom's lipstick compared to mine. Hers says so much about her: calm, sweet, always grateful, shy, never complaining ... and mine?
I can just picture my mom daintily patting her lips with her lipstick. For me, a quick swipe as I dash to the next thing. I don't really know what it means on the chart, but there's an obvious difference. I just know I wish I was more like my mother.
And, it makes me laugh.
(I should say mom's is the conservative-looking, tidy one on the right).

Podso,
ReplyDeleteSo~o~o glad you can see the JOY your Mother gave you and will continue to give throughout your life time!!! I love the lipstick!!! I have my MoMa's on the shelf in my Master Bath...makes me still sense her presence every day!!!
Happy Valentine's Day from my~heart~to~yours!!!
Fondly,
Pat
I've never seen the chart...I am sure it does say a lot about personality. Your mother sounds like she was a wonderful lady, so sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Well, you may see a big difference in the way you apply it, but I see that you both love Clinique. As do I, and so does my mother. My Mom's lipsticks always have that same pretty point. Mine, not so much!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs to you,
Kris
We looked at lipsticks, too. It is interesting. Mine is a squashed affair like your mom's. I think you gals whose lipsticks have some shape look as if you take more care with your make-up.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you are finding things to make you smile. May it never end.
I love that you both use the same brand and same color!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet!
ReplyDeleteMine matches your mum's and my mum's looks like your mum's - maybe it's a generational thing.
It is fun to find something so simple to make one laugh in the midst of sorrow. My lipstick has a dip in the centre and I've always wanted it to be like the shape yours is for some reason. My mother's was like your mothers - smooth and flat. Hugs, Pam
ReplyDeletethat is so funny...I have seen that chart now I'll have to go google it because I'm so curious. Mine looks just like yours!

ReplyDeleteIt's things like that...thinking of you with love, Podso, in these days.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you both used Clinique and I wear mine down like you Dotsie. How do those women get it flat like that? I'm sure my late mother's was flat too; maybe we're not applying it right? :-)

I'm so glad you are finding nuggets of joy mixed with the sorrow. I don't know about that chart, but your Mom's and my lipsticks look the same. I have tried to have mine keep the nice slant... they still end up flat! ;) Sending love and hugs and blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteI'll bet your Mom would giggle right along with you. Joy mixed with sorrow.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the one on the left, and before I got to your last sentence, assumed the slanty one was hers, since you talked about her taking her time. Shoot, I thought all lipsticks were slanty!
ReplyDeleteSilly girl. :)
(I'll never say the word 'slanty' again. Never, never.)
This is such a sweet post. I am glad that the little details are bringing you joy in the midst of your grief. His mercy continues...
ReplyDeleteMemories of your mom will come with the most unexpected things. Even smells can trigger memories. I am so sorry for your loss but she is ALWAYS in your heart. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteYes, that is funny.
ReplyDeleteWhat a dear blog.
Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteDottie
My lipstick looks just like yours!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you have some of your mom in you, you are sweet, I can tell that from your writing.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy
I still have a tube or two of my mother's. I spent many an hour as a little girl watching her put on her red lipstick, smear it in with her little finger, then blot it on a tissue. Sweet memories of your mother will always be in your heart. xo
ReplyDeleteMy lip sticks look like yours. Dotsie, as they always come to a half point! Cherish all you happy memories--your Mom is smiling down on you!
