you never know

I've always been touched that a friend of my sister reads my blog.
Over the years she has emailed me to comment or encourage me in my podso posts.
She recently sent me photos of a lunch she had.
The soup looked familiar and I was thinking I would love to make it.
Turns out it was a soup recipe from my blog.  She wrote me:

I share this for you bloggie friends. Because you will never know the impact your
blog may be having. Whether it's a recipe, a decorating tip, a new way
to clean, a word of encouragement,
or just a pretty photo ... you are making a difference in someone's
life ... and probably more than one!
I actually had forgotten the soup and had to ask my friend to send me the link to my post.
I'm thinking that maybe my soup was a sweet potato salmon soup with a "lacing"
of spinach, but chicken would go wonderfully with it as well:

4 cups of chicken stock
1/2 onion
1 minced garlic clove
1 large sweet potato peeled and diced
pre-cooked chicken breast cut into small pieces
1/2 C smooth almond butter
spinach leaves (or coarsely chopped collard leaves)
2 Tb fresh ginger

After you cook the onion and sweet potato in the stock until tender, add
the pre cooked chicken (or include uncooked chicken and simmer for 20 minutes).

Combine 1/2 cup soup with 1/2 cup almond butter and combine until smooth
and stir into soup, add spinach and ginger and simmer for 5 more minutes.
Can serve with a slice of lime.

Photos from my friend's lunch ...

  2. So many posts from my blog friends have touched my life in many ways and I hope that I've shared with many.
Just recently, my older son mentioned something in conversation that he'd seen on my blog.

I am going to make your soup soon and share it. I'm prepared with almond butter already on hand!!

    Best,
    Bonnie

This is such a great post, Dotsie! I used to try new recipes and look for help with gardening and decorating ideas from magazines, but blogging is so much better because it is friends sharing with friends. I think the last time I bought a magazine was in 2005. :)
I hope you have a wonderful week!
    Hugs,
    Zuzu

  8. Hi Dotsie
This is a touching post and made me realize that our blogs could impact someone and we may not even know it.
How nice of you to make a special connection with this woman and find out she made your soup recipe. I have to agree with Zuzu, fellow bloggers are more than willing to share to help another with crafting, cooking etc.

  11. That sounds really good. I don't eat meat but I betcha I could use a vege broth and throw some other things in there and it would be delicious, too. Hope you are having a great day. Tammy

  17. this does sound like a very flavorful soup!

It is true we never know what influence our blogs have on others. I always enjoy e-mails I receive from non bloggers who come across my blog and have been able to reminisce about a place they knew in Brooklyn or other areas in New York City, because of my blog, or a recipe I've blogged about that they have enjoyed.

Nice to catch up with you this evening..it will be another busy week ahead for me!
