We've been packing boxes at our house. The Gardener is a scholarly man and has books and books and more books. I have my share, and then there's the dishes in the china
We're just getting new carpeting ... something we've put on hold for
We're been working on this more than a week ahead due to busy schedules. And we're living fine with less around us. Granted the house has lost much of the feel of a home, but it does remind me that we can live without much of our stuff. I'm a visual person and love living in beauty and with things of historical, family value around me. It's not that I need these things, but they bring joy and a sense of where I come from and who I am. But still, can I do with less?
Podso,
ReplyDeleteOh, my dear...believe me, I do understand! "mr. Ed" and I are beginning that same due process!!! Last week we made three trips to the carpet store. One to pick up samples, one to return samples and schedule for a proper measurement, and finally to make the final decision and pay half down. NOW, we're into rearranging the lower level to accomodate all the little items from the upstairs! You'll be evermore in my thoughts as you go through the process ahead of me! You'll understand this and perhaps chuckle. The man who did the measurements sternly said, "You'll have to move the breakage items...my, you have a lot of stuff." Like you, they give me comfort and a sense of who I am!
Fondly,
Pat
Hi Podso
ReplyDeleteBig job doing a cleaning like you are but the satisfaction when things are condensed and back in place will be so gratifying.
We sure can collect a lot of stuff over the years!
Judith
I agree with you Podso, as I also enjoy having family memories around me but sometimes it's just too much 'stuff'. In preparing for our 11 month old crawling, standing and reaching grandson's arrival tomorrow, I have had to baby proof tables etc. It's looking bare here too. I'm sure your upheaval will give you a fresh new perspective on decorating again. You mentioned Keswick in your comment on my post. There is a Keswick in Ontario too. Did your relative travel to Keswick N.B.? Curious. Have a great day. Pamela
ReplyDeleteWe could do with less. Do we want to? I don't know. I do like the idea of starting fresh!! I'll look forward to watching as you re-introduce your treasures! blessings

I do admire you. I'm trying to declutter with the prospect of some day downsizing, although I usually lie down until the feelng passes over...or log onto Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI just dropped my husband off at the airport and came home to start on our book cases. They need to be cleaned, purged and put in better order. What a good feeling that will be. I have three days to accomplish this!!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
You are brave! We need new carpet in the guest rooms and I am loather to empty book cases and disassemble beds.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of work, isn't it. It is a good thing to purge and deep clean occasionally, though. I know I don't want to have to live without my "stuff" around me. We did that for two months when we first moved here to this city and I felt like I was missing one of my family members. I was never so happy as when all of my stuff was brought into my house.
ReplyDeleteHappy cleaning and rearranging!
Hugs, Cindy
Good Day, Podso! I'm visiting from Judith's at Lavender Cottage and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you and your family and your lovely home and history with your recent posts! So many commonplaces we share and I am so curious to see all the new changes you make when your rugs are laid and furniture returned. Your mantle story was great - loved the Rainbow Row cross-stitch - I lived there for four years - just in time for Hurricane Hugo long ago. Hope you'll visit me at The Writer's Reverie - a busy week in South Jersey with the earthquake AND a hurricane! I look forward to visiting again!
ReplyDeleteJoy!

I like to see things around me that remind me of family and love. And that's what our treasures mean to me. How exciting that you are getting new carpeting.I've added area rugs over our wall to wall to cover up the well loved areas.

Packing up is something I've had on my mind as we consider selling our home next year. Not looking forward to the packing, but I don't mind the adventure ahead....should the house sell.
ReplyDeleteI've just spent a few minutes catching up with you. I loved the "through the years" photos and stories. Absolutely wonderful.
Happy 40th Anniversary!
