I recently found this photo of my maternal grandparents. Check out how big the
front of this vehicle is. And how they both point their toes out as they pose for the
photographer. My grandpa seems to have his hat at a jaunty angle.
Old photos fascinate me. I like to scan them and look at them on the computer.
When I then enlarge them I see all kind of details I would not have noticed otherwise.
That often brings questions. Like in this photo, I wonder where their four daughters are.
As time passes, there are fewer and fewer who can answer my questions.
But it's still fun to guess.
I love old family photos! I even love new family photos. And anyone else's family photos, old or new. Photos tell a story, don't they?
ReplyDeleteThat is a very cool photo! And that must be some BIG engine underneath that long hood! I also am fascinated by old pics. Several years ago, I made a video/slide show for each one of my brothers and sisters as we said goodbye to the house we had lived in for several decades...so many memories. I gathered just the family pics that were taken at that house through the years...I got some from several of my sibs, scanned them and now I have them all on CD and some are a part of that DVD I made. What a joy and a blessing to see those pics and be reminded where I came from! Thanks for sharing and stirring up some memories in my mind as well!
ReplyDeleteThe style of cars, clothing and hair have changed so much from when our grandparents considered themselves fashionable. I have quite a few old photos that I like to view from time to time myself and try to imagine living back in that era.
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought to scan them on to my computer though - good idea for saving and sharing.
Oh how I LOVE old family photos like these. We found soo many of them when my mom passed away. Wish I knew more details about them, but I have fun guessing too!
ReplyDeleteSo true about not being able to find the answers to our questions. I wish I had asked my parents so much more. I guess I figured they'd live here forever.
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful photo - and that car!!
What a wonderful photo...they look very distinguished! And the cars were made to withstand a bump or two back then. The bumpers didn't crumple like they do now. Enjoy your day my friend!
ReplyDeleteI took a writing class year's ago. We were requested to bring in an old photo and write a story about it. Very interesting results. Wonderful photo of your family. I love sepia!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Perhaps the girls are just off camera and "up to something" because your grandmother is not looking at the camera and she looks slightly amused. I love old photos, too. Your grandparents look to be about a decade older than mine...three of whom were born in 1909. I did have one born in 1892.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great old photo. I remember driving when the front hood extended quite far, although not as far as in your photo. I had to sit up very straight in order to see past the hood.
ReplyDeleteYour grandmother looks warm and elegant in her fur coat. Fun to look at all the details.
That is a wonderful old car! Yes, I agree it is fun to try and guess about what life was like for all those whose genes we bear isn't it. Our family has a trunk full of old photos, half of whom we have not idea about. And yet, they are part of us and we of them. I think perhaps we will all have quite a time getting acquainted someday on the other side of this life . . .
ReplyDeleteOld photos are great I have a few some I don't know who the people are.
ReplyDeleteMerle...........
Old photos fascinate me too. I am the keeper of the old valise, with all of the old family photos. With Nana gone now, we only have Uncle Joe, who at 102 years of age, is as sharp as a tac, but his body is failing him. I need to get some of these photos marked!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved your photo of your Maternal Grands!!

the old car . . . the clothes . . . the black & white photo . . . wonderful!
ReplyDeleteShe has a look of the "Queen Mum" Queen Elizabeth's mother. Very elegant.
ReplyDeleteI like old photos too!

Scrolling, scrolling.. that's what I have been doing here on your blog catching up and enjoying each post! Busy days, gravel roads and sweet moments make stopping by to visit with you a joy :)
ReplyDeleteI find it very annoying to come across an old photograph with no information on it. Sometimes the people aren't even noted. There was a time that film processors printed the date on the back. That was helpful. Now with everything being digital, many family photographs will probably disappear with every generation. I'm doing my part, though, and also printing some of them and putting them into albums--labeled. This is a good reminder (after my rant) to make sure my digital files are labeled with names and places. It can be daunting now since it's so easy to take 1,000's of pictures before you even know it!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great old photo Dotsie. The car sure is large by today's standards. I also love looking at old family pics and have scanned some to the computer. I should be doing more of them before they fade away to nothing. And yes, there are many questions to be asked.
ReplyDeleteOh there is something about old pictures that I just love. This is a good one. I hope it was Okay for me to pin it to my Pinterest Board "Black & White." If not just send word and I'll remove it. Thanks for sharing it. Be Blessed!
ReplyDeleteI love old photos, Dotsie! As I get older, I find myself going through our photos more and more often. I really enjoyed picking out black and white photos to frame for our piano some years ago. I think I probably got my love of family photos from my mom.
ReplyDeleteYour maternal grandparents certainly look very dapper! :) That is some car, I must say. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend, my friend!
Hugs,
Denise
