I love the reflections on glass-walled buildings in our own city.
A view from the back seat of a taxi in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Freiburg in southeast Germany is a happy city, known for having more sunny days than
anywhere else in Germany, and maybe most known for its little waterways that
line the cobblestone streets of the old part of the city. It's charming to
watch the children play with boats, or to watch workers on their lunch hours
cool their feet in the little channels.
All my photos, sadly, were taken with a little point and shoot, most likely on automatic.
I do some editing on these, primarily with iPhoto. With some of the black and white
I give more depth to the photo by using "definition" and "contrast" and
in some cases, more "warmth," as in the photo above. You can
see the difference in the two black and white photos here.

Great city shots- I love the reflections on that glass building, and the cute kiddo in the last one.
ReplyDeleteI love your city street scenes Dotsie! Really nicely done. The water flowing along the street is such a different idea.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your thought 'reflections' as well as the photos. Yes, I do see how you added 'warmth' to the one photo. Nice. These photos show a world that looks so normal and all. Modest clothing, children happily playing outside. Love it. You must have traveled a lot. I like that...but am a wall flower girl myself, but appreciate seeing the world through someone else's eyes. =)
ReplyDeleteSince you have iphoto..you must have a mac. Have you ever tried the app in itune....(free) Magic Puzzle? for 4.99 it lets you convert your own photos into jigsaw puzzles and gives you the option of having only the edge pieces appear first facing in the right direction. I love that app..its so much fun. I bought the Alaska picture pack also. the puzzles are HD? just beautiful.
Loved these photos, Dotsie! And, the hints on improving! blessings and big hugs ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteWonderful street scenes. I especially like the children with their sailing "vessels" in the little streams.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
That photo from Ethiopia looks so different from other cities in Africa. The German town is charming!
ReplyDeleteI really like all of these photos.

I'd say that you coax a lot of goodness out of your point-and-shoot!! These photos are all fabulous with their multiple layers of interest...the kind that you must look at several times to take it all in. I love the wall reflections in your city. And I am totally fascinated by the little channels of water in the German city! Charming indeed!
ReplyDeleteWow! All that with a point and shoot! The first is so intriguing because I thought that all the people were looking at the glass wall when, in actuality, they are watching a basketball player! Oh and I love the street scenes in Germany with the children playing in the waterways. Completely charming! I do note the warmth added to the final photo.
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic photos! I especially love the third one. Darling!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best idea for street scenes and really what I wish I could have seen. The very first one with the reflections onto the glass wall is amazing. I would have stood there staring until I was blinded! Great job on the challenge! WOW!
ReplyDeleteHello Dotsie
ReplyDeleteI like that you were able to share street scenes from different countries. Each tells a bit about the country and the first one with the huge reflections is awesome!
Wonderful pics from lovely places!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy photos with reflections in glass - yours is amazing Dotsie!
Happy weekend, Mary
What charming photos of the children playing in the channels. Germany is a place I would love to visit one day.
ReplyDeleteOh, I wanted to tell you...you mentioned on a previous post that your "babies" were in the next decade to my "baby" Drew. My girls are also!!! I had Drew when my girls were 6 and 8! Lots of age difference there. But it was fun to have him all to myself while they were in school, for so many years there!
Hugs,
kris
Beautiful photographs from amazing places!

Love the reflections in the tall glass buildings! That little river channel is a neat feature. The post-processing effects for additional clarity really do enhance the shots! Great job, sweetie!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great variety of shots, Dotsie. Love the reflections - at first, I thought that's what everyone was looking at.
ReplyDeleteThe children playing in the canal make darling subjects for your photos. Classic.
They're all very nice, but really like the reflections in glass.
ReplyDeleteI love the lively street scenes in Germany!
ReplyDeleteChildren at play always gravitate towards water - wherever they are in the world!!
I'm surprised at this prosperous scene in Addis Ababa - not what I would expect in Ethiopia.
You must have the cleanest buildings in your city - I love seeing the green trees in the reflection. I noticed the basketball hoop last of all in this very 'happening' scene!
A great collection Dotsie!
Great variety of photos! Very interesting!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of the little children playing with their boats in little water channels. What fun! All your pictures are so beautiful and full of interest.
ReplyDeletePeople watching alway interesting, better if recorded.

Excellent. If I had not read Vee's comment I would not have known about the basketball player. Reflections are tough. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteI love photo #3. the highlights and shadows, black and white. Really really good shot!!
I like how you've captured the children playing in the third and fourth photos. Converting them to B&W was probably a great choice as I bet the colours would have been distracting.
ReplyDeletePodso,
ReplyDeleteI adore your photos, dear friend!!!
Anytime, I see photos of germany, I'm taken backto our 7 years of life there! GRAND memories!!!
I only own a point & shoot. . .so, to me, these are fabuous!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Hi these are wonderful photos and thanks for sharing them at Kati's party. Have a nice weekend.

That's fun that we both put the watercolor photos on our sidebars today!
ReplyDeleteA great idea for a post. P&S cameras take good shots especially when you can add a bit of post processing.
ReplyDeleteOh, these are Beautiful! Love the children playing...P&S cameras take wonderful shots!!
