"She spoke of the duty of being ready to welcome happiness as well as to endure pain, and of the strength that endurance wins by being grateful for small daily joys, like the evening light, and the smell of roses. and the singing of birds. She spoke of the faith that rests in the Unseen Wisdom and Love like a child on its mother's breast, and the melting away of doubts in the warmth of an effort to do some good in the world." (Henry Van Dyke, in the 1800s)

Now that's enough to ponder for the entire day. Beautiful rose...just beginning to fade and all the while growing more lovely.
ReplyDeleteSmall joys... too often we miss them and lose out on a lot of collective joy! Thanks for reminding me!
ReplyDeleteSmall joys bring the greatest pleasure to your life.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
Lots of meat in that quote. Being ready to welcome pain as well as joy - now that takes some faith.
ReplyDeleteLovely roses with a bit of wear on them are a perfect accompaniment to the quote.
What a great quote...words of wisdom!! HOPE you have a great SONday!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is just beautiful and so encouraging. Thanks for sharing it. I found your link at With a Grateful Heart. Hugs ~ Mary

Something great to think about! Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteHello Dotsie
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to read something along with a photo that makes you stop and think about it.

This is a powerful quote! I love these pale pink roses..so delicate looking and I bet they are the kind that still have a lovely scent!
ReplyDeletePS: Yes, Dotsie, I think that men of our father's generation were the ones that jingled the coins in their pocket. :) They never wore jeans and had looser pants, and it was a time when pennies, nickels and dimes actually bought something so they would carry them around! It was a very comforting sound for me.
I read a quote today... something like, enough dust makes mountains... gratitude for all our multitude of daily gifts can make a joyful life. That I do believe. AND, the quote you posted is wonderful... there is pain along with the good. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteI read and re-read that quote. Beautiful words and I'll keep them with me through the day.
ReplyDeleteSuch truth in such simple words! I try very hard to be grateful for the small things. I've found that if I'm not thankful for the small things, I'm not as grateful for the large things either. Thanks for the reminder! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful words so eloquently written. And lovely photo of the soft peach rose! I am a little late getting by to visit Think on These Things posts but I am very glad I did :)
ReplyDeleteYes and amen!! May we always become more grateful for small daily joys
