I love a good morning. It's been years since I've done well at sleeping in, so I don't mind getting up early and getting a "jump on the day." Or simply enjoying the crispness of dawn, the slow warmth of the sun peeping up from the crest of the earth, and the silence around me as the city awakens.
When I'm out walking early, there seems to be some sort of agreement with others I pass, a silent, mutual acknowledgement of the beauty and stillness of life at that hour.
I met a friend for coffee the other morning. 6:30 and we didn't bat an eye at the time. Granted 6:30 looks a lot nicer in the summer than the darkness of winter mornings, but when we parted at 8, the day in many ways was still just beginning. And she is less than half my age, yet loves early mornings.
Morning has broken like the first morning ...
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning,
Born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning;
God's recreation of the new day.
I'm guessing that many of you are also "morning people."
I'm guessing that many of you are also "morning people."
Let's say it this way...I feel better when I begin the day early, but seem to have a yen to stay up late as well. Can't have both! :)
ReplyDeleteEarly really is better.
One of my favorite songs ever ... Morning has broken ...
ReplyDeleteI am not a morning person at all! But I do love days when I awake before anyone else and have a couple of hours of quiet time to myself before the actual day begins. The lazy days of summer are so much nicer than the hectic school days that will come around all too soon. :/
Have a great day. Tammy
Good morning! It's 7:30 a.m. here and I've been up for an hour! Not much sleep last night so here I am! I do love early mornings, especially in summer as they are so bright (when sunny) and I can get a good start to my day. Have a wonderful day! Pamela
ReplyDeleteI think you said it all so well. I would love to meet you early for coffee. Or just pop on over to your pretty kitchen!
ReplyDeleteYou would guess right, Dotsie. Years and years of hitting the OR full throttle by 6:30 am has left me with a 4:50 habit I can't, and don't want, to break. I love the first light of day (which is always hours after I rise)... gives one a sense of hope I believe. I would have enjoyed joining you for coffee, too. =) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteI could have been there with Tanna! I can't even remember the last time I slept in until 7 a.m. Early morning is when I first give thanks for the new day and then plan for it.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
I rise early because I've taught myself to do so, not because it comes naturally to me. It is absolutely necessary to me to have an hour to myself before anybody else gets up. I don't have any problems sleeping in, though....reverting to old habits so to speak. Still, I tell my kids when they stay up late then sleep 'til noon that they've wasted the best hours of the day.
ReplyDeleteBTW, we went to Grey Towers on Saturday and loved it!
I'm hearing Cat Stevens sing this song in my head...love, love, loved it back in the day! Still do.
ReplyDeleteI'm an early riser too and I know just what you mean about the amazing beauty and quiet of the early morning...there's no other time like it during the day. Glorious!
I'm a morning person if I don't wear a sleep shade and I am well rested. I hate to miss the best hours of the day!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy
Oh yes, I'm a morning person, usually up and on the go by 0530. That said, I am thrilled when, on the very odd occasion I'll wake to find that I've slept until 7:30 or 8. Luxury!
ReplyDeleteI am not really a morning person --I worked the night shift as a nurse for many years, and sometimes I think my body is still in reverse ;)
ReplyDeleteI do rise early though and walk a few miles in a local park with friends. It is a wonderful way to start the day! I love to watch the sun rise on winter mornings and in summer it is the coolest part of the day!
Sometimes yes and sometimes no...but there is something so fresh about the early hours of a summer day...

Podso,
ReplyDeleteAh~h~h, yes! Early morning! My hymn of choice..."In The Garden". I come to the Garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses.
I sometimes wonder ...if those people would see the beauty of the sunlight coming through the dawn, birds on the sunflowers pecking out the dried seeds, rabbits hopping unhurried across the lawn...if perhaps, they too, would become morning people?
Fondly,
Pat
