It is sooo hot these days. Record breaking temperatures and all that.
It's at this very hottest time of year that I look amazed at the crepe myrtles,
just blazing with beauty in spite of dryness or heat extremes.

No one waters them when there is no rain,
but unlike flowers that wilt with no water, these girls just seem to thrive on the heat.
This summer I've paid more attention to the different shades ... some a darker red,
some a soft pink, some a darker pink, some violet, and some white.
I think you can guess my favorite shade.
It is a nice treat to see such large crepe myrtles. Yours are so TALL. Here they die down to the ground each winter, and so they only get as big as they can in one season. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteI have the loveliest photograph of my mother standing under a crepe myrtle in her yard. Her bushes (trees?) were your favorite color--mine too. We have a white one in the parkway in front of our house which is quite nice but I like the rich pink ones best.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend with a cool breeze thrown in.
Best,
Bonnie
We had a mayor a few years ago who had an idea to beautify our city. So the two terms he was in office the city would give away crepe myrtles. You'd go through the line and they'd put free trees in each car. We ended up with ten trees for our yard. The city also planted them in the mediums and along entrance and exit ramps. Really does make a difference. For once a politician had a good idea:)
ReplyDeleteDotsie, I could have made this exact post (not as well as you, but I feel the same). Every year I am amazed at the resilience and strength of the crepe myrtle. They bloom and stand strong in the most blazing heat and driest conditions. They are truly amazing. I admire them greatly.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time on your adventures! blessings ~ tanna
This is a plant that is completely unknown to me - and if I ever get down south I will be sure to do so when it is in bloom. I'd love to see one of these in 'real life'.
ReplyDeleteI was just noticing today that some of the larger bougainvillea here are still blooming and Lord knows we never, ever get rain. It's amazing how they can survive. We had no one to water plants while in Nepal, so everything on my bedroom balcony died. Such a pitiful sight now. :/ Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Tammy
ReplyDeleteCrepe Myrtle is so beautiful, I don't think it grows in this area, I have never seen it here. It was hot here today, 98*! Can you believe it? I loved it!

I've loved Crepe Myrtle's since I was a young girl. There was a tree around the corner when I was a young child and I thought it was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWe had a 2 week stretch of hot, hot weather over 100 but it finally broke and has been down to the high 70's. Nice change. I don't do well in the heat the older I get.
My mom always liked crepe myrtles. I think of her whenever i see them. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful, and brilliant. And obviously thriving. Too bad we humans don't do as well in the heat!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! Crepe Myrtle is blooming in my neck of the woods right now too. I don't have one but I think they are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed seeing your Fiesta ware post.
Podso,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely vision to behold!
