A little time out from a relentless political season
to look back at simpler times.
I'm thinking our moms were clever to give us this bedspread shade
for a picnic in our sunny yard. Remember those
sticks that raised clotheslines high?
Here we are with our Alaskan cousins
who we only saw once every four years.
If this was a clearer photo I'd zoom in and see what my mom
fixed us for lunch. I do see bowls, so my guess is soup,
even in the summer. My mom was a soup queen, year round.
Lastly, some color. It's in full bloom now as seen on
our neighboring street on the right.
Photo on the left was taken by our son
on the Blue Ridge Parkway a few weeks ago.
Wonderful memory and beautiful photos, Dotsie!
ReplyDeleteYes, simpler times indeed. Lovely to look back at memories. Have a wonderful weekend x
ReplyDeletePodso,
ReplyDeleteSuch a refreshing "break" for this time of year, dear friend!
Thank you!
Fondly,
Pat
Oh I love the old photo... there is just something about black and white photos that calm me while making me nostalgic. I also love your mom's creativity to get you some shade. And I feel like your mom and I must be kindred spirits because I think my kids would probably call me the soup queen, too. :) Thanks for visiting my blog! And thanks for sharing the beauty of your world here.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Christi
I enjoyed seeing the photo with the creative umbrella. It looks like something my Mama would have done. Your autumn photos are beautiful. On our walk today we were so happy to see the leaves in all of their glorious colors. ♥
ReplyDeleteTimes were simpler back then, wonder if our parents had the stress we deal with today? The fall colours this year seem to be better than any for a long time.
ReplyDeleteOh my! The Blue Ridge Parkway...swoon...
ReplyDeleteWait, I was so busy swooning that I forgot to guess which child is you... first bench and on the right?
DeleteYour son captured a GORGEOUS image of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Dotsie!!! Swoon! Your neighborhood picture is really pretty and colorful, too. :) I love that old photograph; it makes me smile. The bedspread shade is perfect (we used to make playhouses with a blanket and some chairs). Did you ever go to visit your cousins in Alaska?
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good weekend.
Hugs,
Denise
Soup in Tupperware! My mom's lunch staples!! I am weary of politics but I'm never weary of fall on the Blue Ridge!!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
I love that old photo, Dottie - sure is a classic.
ReplyDeleteDid you ever eat macaroni and cheese when a child? That's something else that would go in a bowl.
I *still* love it - wish I didn't, haha.
Hugs. ♥
Evocative of almost idyllic times. This was really the American dream, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteSimpler, yes, and so much fun to sit or picnic or play under a temporary tent!!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness...that fall color! I never tire of it!
I love this picture! Your backyard reminds me of ours back then! I'm guessing you are on the right of your mom...correct? :-)
ReplyDeleteJane
LOVE LOVE that picture! Oh simpler times are the best. What GORGEOUS Fall colors to enjoy as well. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture of some sweet days gone by! Oh...sometimes I heart aches to have them back. I remember having so much fun as a child and it saddens me when I think how the kids today miss out. The fall colors are just so stunning, although our fall here hasn't been the most beautiful...the leaves seem to be drying up on the trees...still pretty though. Enjoy the rest of your week :)
ReplyDeleteI love your sweet photo of simpler days. Our soup always came from the traditional red and white can any time of the year. Egg salad sandwiches were a favourite summer lunch with Kool Aid to drink and I carried on that tradition with my kids. The fall colours in your photos are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSoup was on the menu even during summer at our place, too. Even now I can eat soup at any time of year. Such a fun photo of times past. Enjoy those fall colours while they last.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet treat!! Old photographs are just so heartwarming, aren't they?? Your fall colors are just glorious!
