My mother's doll … or was it her mother's?
We can't seem to remember now, but it's a doll that Mom always
had perched on the mantle in our childhood home.
Eventually my older sister, the one who sews so well,
made a whole new outfit of clothes for the doll who has no name...
…at least that we can remember.
The new garb includes under garments trimmed with lace.
Beautiful details, fine hand work,
and a fresh pink ribbon.
All beautifully dressed up, now residing on the piano
at my younger sister's house.
I remember my grandmother having a doll very similar, not sure what ever happened to her though x
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful doll...her hair is truly lovely. Obviously, your mother or grandmother was not too rough with the brush and didn't feel tempted by the scissors. Ha! Oh my, your sister is a talented seamstress to create such a lovely new outfit. Does she have a stamp or any markings? I think it would be fairly easy to search out her origins on the www and thereby determine just who was her first owner. I was able to with my mother's Anne Shirley who I was always told was a Shirley Temple.
ReplyDeleteShe is a very beautiful doll and looks very happy in her new clothes. Heirlooms like this are very precious and I always wonder what stories they could tell.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. My mother had a Shirley Temple doll that I wanted to play with so badly. Sad, but I don't know what happened to that doll.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie

ReplyDeleteVery pretty doll. My Mother-in-Law used to collect dolls. It is amazing how many different expressions they have. Some of their clothes are so authentic and detailed.

You're lucky to have such a talented sewing sister. The clothes look like they came with the doll, but never played with.

ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful! Your sister did a lovely job on the clothes for her. What a sweet treasure to have.
ReplyDeleteHello! I keep seeing your unique name pop up in the comments on other blogs I am visiting, so I decided it was time for me to come over and meet you. I have loved reading back through your posts. Of course, I cried when I read A Tale of Two Dresses... so sweet. And obviously your sister's amazing sewing skills have carried over from her wedding gown to the doll dress and clothing. Just beautiful! Love your fall decorations, too! As a tea lover, I also loved the Tea Party post. My daughter (19) and I can't resist a good excuse for a tea party. Beautiful photos of mountains and architecture and all kinds of things... I will be back to visit again soon!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Christi
What a wonderful sewing job your older sister did! But wait. How did the doll end up at the younger sister's house? Wherever she is, it's a beautiful doll and amazing clothes made by loving hands.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Dotsie -- this is lovely!!! Your older sister is an amazing seamstress!! I absolutely love the dress and the pretty pink sash. The doll has such pretty red hair and blue eyes; it's a shame she doesn't have a name. I think it's so nice that this doll has been handed down through the women of your family. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this with us, and thanks so much for your visit today. Have a great weekend!
Hugs,
Denise
