arch rivals

It seems like ages ago that we "battened down the hatches," removed potential
flying objects from our yard, and headed down to the hurricane. It didn't make
sense, but we had a board meeting to attend and other things
to do, and of course no one knew exactly how Hurricane Matthew would turn out.
We made decisions moment by moment, and rerouted through Atlanta to avoid
the exodus from coastal areas. All along the way we saw utility
trucks, headed to help--even before the storm arrived.
(And we saw them on their way home as we drove home yesterday).
The board meeting ended up being by phone and partly took place as we drove.
We arrived early at my sister's house where her four granddaughters
were visiting, and enjoyed a wonderful five days with them.
One thing we did was to take them to the Ringling Museum of Art
(parts of which are free on Mondays). I call it the "Museum of Arches."
They are everywhere, as is beautiful art to enjoy.
We left home wearing shorts and complaining about the heat,
reached Florida just as cooler weather breezed in,
and arrived home wearing long pants, noting a slight touch of color, and
no evidence at our house of the storm that ended up being worse in our state than FL.
(Thanks to our son who came over and cleaned up the storm debris.)
It is so good to be home.
Joining in Mosaic Monday.

  2. Glad to hear that you're home safe and that your house didn't suffer damage. Your museum photo mosaics are beautiful, I can see why you would call it the Museum of Arches, such a great place to visit with your family.
    Happy Mosaic Monday!

  3. Podso,
    Goodness!
When I watch the news, I try to remember where all my "friends" live a say a prayer,
but didn't realize Matthew would reach you, too, dear friend!
So~o~o glad you arrived home safe and sound and with minimal storm damage.
    The arches are lovely, indeed!
Spending time with family is always a treasured time!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  6. Glad to hear you are safe and sound with no damage to your home. How brave you were to drive down into the area of Matthew. I've heard about Ringling Bros. Museum but have never been there. The arches are fabulous. Enjoy being back at home. ♥

  11. How ironic that you drove toward the storm, and yet the storm ended up worse in the place you left. Another proof of how much we don't know and how unpredictable such things are.

It looks like your time spent in Florida was filled with memory-making moments! (But it's always good to come home, isn't it?)

  12. I'm glad you fared well after Matthew blew through your area. He left quite a trail of destruction way up here as well with millions of dollars in damage in Cape Breton and Newfoundland. The Ringling museum looks quite beautiful inside and out.

  14. I am glad that you did not have to much to deal with in having to head into the path of Hurricane Matthew. My daughter and her husby live in Deerfield Beach, FL, and they had flown out of West Palm beach on the Monday before to go out to LA...they totally missed it. Always nice to stop by~

  16. Wow...that must have been some trip and Matthew was totally unpredictable! What gorgeous architecture at your Museum of the Arches! We had no damage other than lot of yard debris but lots of rain and flooding in our county. Fortunately, we sit up on a hill. Glad your home safe & sound :)

  17. I'm glad to hear that you were not personally affected by the Hurricane other than yard clean-up. The next time we're in the Tampa area my brother plans to take us to that museum. It sounds like an amazing museum.

  18. Loved the pics of the Ringling, which we enjoyed in person, but didn't get very good photos of; yours are great. Funny story about driving into the hurricane (in retrospect) and very glad you survived without trauma.
