summer captions

It's been so hot. Over 100 degrees each day this week.
Finally today after some much needed rain a break in the heat.
Outdoor concert with a favorite hometown band.
What little boy doesn't want to celebrate at least one birthday with a dirt cake?
Littlest One insists on wearing her sunglasses inside and upside down.
Fathers' Day at our church: all the men and boys up front to sing.
A warm night of dominoes and 60s music with friends on the porch.
It wasn't til later that I realized why this game was so hard for me.
Look at how busy the tablecloth is along with the colorful dominoes.

  1. We are having a break in the heat also. It's such a relief to enjoy outdoors again! Fun times at your home! ♥

  2. Same up this way with the break in the heat. In fact, it's been quite chilly yesterday and even today despite the sun!

  3. I love your lace curtains and your table lamp, Dotsie! I don't know how many little ones I've seen wearing sunglasses upside down, and it still cracks me up every time I see it!! :-D Such a cutie! It looks like Father's Day was very nice at your church.

It has been terribly hot here, hasn't it? I finally got my flowers planted on the porch today; I was afraid to do it the past two weeks for fear I'd have a sun stroke. ;) We were so glad to see the rain Friday and Saturday. Have a good week, Dotsie.

    Hugs,

    Denise

  4. Cute post - love the every day stuff.

I could hardly even SEE the dominoes on that vintage tablecloth, haha, no WONDER, Podso!! LOL.

  5. Good morning, I love the cute dirt cake and your little one with the sunglasses is adorable. We are having cooler temps than normal, I would like to see some hot weather here. Looks like you are having fun there, great mosaic. Have a happy day and week ahead!

  6. WOW even hotter there than it has been here. We are getting a bit of a break this week. I love those little children's dirt cakes and enjoy making them and eating one myself. What a great idea to have the boys and men of the church sing for father's day. Do you have the same thing with the girls and mothers on Mother's Day? I think that would all be very special. The last image reminded me of playing Dominos with my mother, oh so many long years ago. Happy week~

  7. 111 degrees here right now. We are always indoor during the day. Looks like you've had some lovely times. Those dominoes do kinda blend in to the tablecloth. :) Have a good day. Tammy

  8. Gosh, that is really hot! We don't ever have temperatures like that. I wish you cooler days and some rain!
I didn't know what a dirt cake is, but now I have found some recipes (on the net). Yours looks gorgeous!
All the photos are lovely, but the first one is my favourite; there's such a special and soothing atmosphere in it.
    Have a great week ahead!

  9. You did have a wonderful day!!! Mom was still playing dominos two to three times a week until she passed. She had dementia and that was the only game she could play that didn't make her anxious. She had to give up her beloved pinocle because of that. But she could play a mean game of dominos!! Have a wonderful day!

  10. Such a happy collection of summertime memories, I'm not surprised that you found playing dominoes so difficult I could only just make them out myself!

  11. I've seen instructions for making the dirt cakes but don't think I could bring myself to make one. I suppose one would have had to have boys to see the thrill of these things. LOL So cute to see your granddaughter with her sunglasses upside down, she's cool and that's all that matters.
Now I would have liked to see all the men at our church at the front singing, instead they each received a wrapped Dads cookie upon entering.
I've never played dominoes Dotsie, but can see where the tablecloth might be a distraction - it's a good excuse for playing poorly at least!
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday, I hope it cools down for you.

  12. Dirt cake! Who knew! Your post was loads of fun ... fun to see what's happening in your world. It is HOT and steamy. Stay cool. Happy Monday!

  13. Well you won't make that mistake again! LOL

Love the dirt cake and I want some!

Hope that the temps moderate. A week of those kinds of temps are energy sapping. We are enjoying a cool, rainy summer thus far, if "enjoy" is the right word.

  14. That would be one distracting dominoes game! The dirt cake looks like lots of fun for a little boy. I remember making dirt cupcakes once, probably for our son's birthday.
The black and white photo is classic and cool-looking even if the temperature belies the look. Hope the temperatures aren't too much this week.

  15. Oh boy, that dominoes game would be so hard for me too with the pretty but busy, tablecloth under the colourful tiles. I often have to take my glasses off to play so I can focus on the tiles. Fun photos. I'd love some cake like that too! I can't imagine it being that hot for that long. I hope you are cooled down a bit now.

Oh, I love the glimpses into your summer days. What a blessing to have the men up singing! I love the dessert, I had forgotten about that one, I will have to make it someday for our little one.

  17. Love the tablecloth, but I get your point! :) And the upside down glasses thing....our kids did the same thing. So cute.

  18. That is quite a tablecloth especially for dominoes....hope it cools down there!

  19. I would absolutely melt in 100 degree weather! It seems the older I get the harder it is for me to tolerate heat and humidity. I will be in NYC for a visit this summer and I know I'll feel the humidity there!

    The "dirt" cake looks fun!

  21. So love the atmospheric black and white first photo. Enchanting. And the domino challenge would be difficult with those busy graphics on the cloth to add some confusion. But it is an attractive cloth.

  22. Summer fun, other than the heat! I think everyone would have trouble with the dominos on that tablecloth! It's cute but they blend in! Dirt cake is awesome, and I love the sunglasses! Kids are wonderful in their interesting little personal likes and dislikes.

What a wonderful photo of the men and boys of your church!
