garden sits and sights

Birds, flowers, vegetables, trees and sitting places
are in abundance in our back yard.
We enjoy places to sit and rest from our outdoor labors.
I've never been good at remembering names of
flowers or birds…other than the better known ones.
I just enjoy them and love being able to pick fresh flowers for indoors.
The knock-out roses knocked themselves out again this year.
We took down the boys' tree house when we moved from our old house
and used the wood to build raised garden beds.
There remained just one bit--the ladder.
The Gardener decided it was time to let the zucchinis roam on their own,
so he got the ladder from storage and made these beds.
Look closely and you can see ladder rungs.
The zukes seem to like it!

  1. Raised beds are so practical. Ours don't have rungs though!
What an amazing rose. Mine are only just beginning to come into flower.

  4. Great repurposing! (I thought you might have built a little cabin for the grands.) I want to know all the plants and flowers, birds and aimals...brain too small to hold it all. LOL!

  5. I'm glad there's someone else who has trouble remembering all the plant and bird names. I do, too. Love the repurposing of the old tree house into plant beds.

  8. Thank goodness I'm not alone in forgetting the names of birds and plants, I just enjoy them as you do.
Raised beds are so practical aren't they.
You can never have too many places to sit in the garden for the times you need a break from all the hard work or just to let the sun warm your face.

  10. All that's missing is a pitcher of sweet iced tea with lemon!! Lovely spaces to sit in. What a good idea to utilize the wood--raised beds and happy memories.

  16. Dare I say we're from an age where nothing goes to waste? The old ladder looks right at home with zucchinis growing between the rungs and I see a couple of good spots to sit for afternoon tea.
Thanks fro linking to Mosaic Monday Dotsie.

  23. What a lovely back yard. The roses are just stunning and I really like the raised beds. Our son has a garden where we get most of our produce from but I do try my hand at growing tomatoes. So far they are doing great. Is that red clay I see? Looks a lot like my back yard! In NC, that's all we have :(

  25. The old swing reminds me of one my grandmother had on the back porch of her mountain cabin. Yes, your yard does look restful and peaceful, a wonderful place relax. As you, I don't always know the names of the plants that I plant, not even the common name, let alone the scientific name. I just want them to grow and look pretty--as do yours. I hope you are enjoying your week.

  28. Oh Dotsie, I LOVE that last photo!! Those cut flowers in the basket are just lovely!! I like the ladder rungs in the zucchini bed -- great idea. We want to build raised beds in our backyard; hopefully we'll get to it sooner rather than later. ;) I hope you're having a good week and enjoying this weather!
