Isn't he beautiful?
And that's the Gardener's red shirt.
The day the Gardener flew home from Thailand he didn't leave until midnight.
A friend wanted him to go pet the tigers, and I persuaded him to go "for the
grandchildren's sake." When I didn't hear from him until the next day I
began to feel guilty and the "what ifs?" piled into my active mind.
But he was fine and enjoyed the experience, though not without some risk.
These big cats are raised from birth in a loving environment, are NOT declawed,
and are well fed. They sleep a lot, just like little cats, and if you pet them
according to the rules, all is well "they say."
There was a waiver to sign when they entered the area.
Then only tense moment was when the tall Gardener stumbled
near an "ambush" of the "junior high age" tigers.
near an "ambush" of the "junior high age" tigers.
The tigers were unphased.
But the guards--they were a bit rattled.
Oh dear! My mind would have gone on the same rambles as yours, I think! I am glad that all is well and that you have these fabulous photos for the grandchildren. These should make quite an impression! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! They are beautiful. I'll have to ask my Thai friends if they've ever done this.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
What an experience and wow...they are gorgeous animals. Great photos from your friend.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome experience!
ReplyDeleteWhat an experience! Wow! I've always thought these tigers were stunningly beautiful! I think I may wait until the 'lion lays down with the lamb' before petting them though!

Oh wow Dotsie, these big cats are just beautiful!! I have an "active" mind just like you and I would have been worried. :) The Gardener is braver than I because beautiful as they are, I don't think I could be that close to them. I'm so clumsy and probably would have fallen, and they might think, "Fresh Food!" :-D Their eyes are so beautiful and so are their coats. I enjoyed these pictures and thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Denise
My goodness, Dotsie, I would have been wondering about this experience also! What beautiful tigers--but I think I would just have to enjoy them from afar. ♥
ReplyDeleteI hope some of the photos show Grandpa's face or else the grandkids may not have believed it! Just hope they don't try to do the same the next time they go to the Zoo.
ReplyDeleteWhat an experience to be so close and touch these magnificent animals! Just big pussy cats, I don't suppose they purr like a domestic cat?
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Being a cat lover to begin with, these photos make my heart leap. What magnificent creatures. Lucky day for the Gardener.
ReplyDeleteI have heard that they don't purr. I wonder if that's true.
He is terribly handsome. What a wonderful experience...sort of an Isaiah 11:6 moment in advance. My mind would have been skipping and hopping all over the place if I hadn't heard how things went very early on. Ha!
ReplyDeletePatting Tigers not too sure about that.
ReplyDeleteMerle..............
Such lovely creatures. Tony is a charmer. Glad your husband had the experience and is home to tell you (and the grandchildren) all about it.
ReplyDeleteWow. What an experience. They are such beautiful animals but I would rather watch from behind a sturdy fence I think.
ReplyDeleteWhat an experience. Cats are such a wonderful animal to photograph. So striking!
ReplyDeleteWOW, I bet he was glad he went. What an experience! Tony is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful! But you won't get me to pet a tiger. I have petted a cheetah though. I was told that cheetahs are more able to be "tamed" than a tiger or lion. I don't think that is really true. A wild animal is a wild animal. Some people seem to have a way with wild animals.
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome fellow! :)
ReplyDeleteI do hope they are treated well. I have read recently so many sad articles about Thailand's tiger "sanctuaries" where the animals are declawed, sedated, chained to the ground, etc. I'm really happy to see a place where animal well-being is considered important.
Beautiful photos! Have a lovely week!
What a gorgeous fellow........Thanks for sharing the photos.....
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!

ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
Reminds me of Tony the tiger from frosted flakes. LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to MM Dotsie.
How incredible is that?!!
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought someone could pat a tiger of that size - an amazing experience though not for the faint hearted like me!
Your Gardener was veeerry brave Dotsi .
They are magnificent animals - but the hairs on the back of my neck are standing on end - a warning I would say!!
What a perfect name for this beautiful creature, and like Judith said, very reminiscent of Tony the tiger on the Frosted Flakes cereal box! Must have been a thrilling experience for you husband. Don't think I could have been courageous enough to get so close!
ReplyDeletePoppy
Much as I love cats, don't know that I would be brave enough to do this, even though I'd love to. I can be clumsy, and I'd likely fall near them, and as another Commenter said, they might think "Fresh meat!!" But what an awesome, unforgettable experience. Glad he has the photos to prove it. Such beautiful animals! Tony is so handsome!
ReplyDeleteThey are so huge and beautiful and POWERFUL! An exhilarating experience for The Gardener and tales for the grandbabies!! =) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteOh my! What great photos. These animals are always wild but it sounds like they take good precautions. Sure made some wonderful photos to share. Give him an extra hug for going! Sweet hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteStunning cats and what an experience.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous tigers. A rare opportunity to get so close. Thank you for stopping by the Garden Spot.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous animals. Thanks for sharing. Sylvia
ReplyDeleteI am thinking that the Gardener's getting to pet Tigers was probably a bit more exciting than when I got to pet a Chimpanzee. Those Tigers are beautiful, what a great experience for him~
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!! What an amazing experience, but one time is enough!
