We gathered at a friend's house for brunch the other day in honor
of a new school year. K. always decorates so beautifully and
it's fun to see how she does a school theme.
But we really had a purpose other than a fun
get together among friends.
We each brought a bag full of school supplies.
Our hostess later took them to a "store" for school
teachers in areas where abundance is lacking.
Teachers can come "shop" there every few weeks and
pick up as many as 12 items for their classroom.
You can't beat a good time among friends,
while giving to a wonderful cause.
I love that K. provides this opportunity for us every year.
I like the theme decorating, and it is a lovely thing you and your friends are doing for the teachers and students. I see it also has side benefits- that pretty lunch! In our area teachers also end up having to supplement their classrooms out of their own pockets, but in our case it's mostly due to poor allocation of funds, since the coaches never have to reach into their own pockets to pay for sports equipment or new sports facilities.
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent idea. You have planted a "seed" for me. Love the themed decor.

What a great idea! I am amazed at what parents have to provide for their students classrooms these days. Where do all my tax dollars go anyway? School taxes are tied to property tax and we pay over $2,000 a year, and we are one of the 'cheaper' districts! The school boards can and do raise the taxes every year. They want more and more money to pay for things like million dollar football stadiums. I'd love it if my property tax money could be used for my homeschool kids expenses! That would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteSorry, this hit a nerve with me!
Your luncheon looked fun and I think it's great that you all donate items for teachers in poorer districts!

How wonderful that you can combine a lovely lunch with friends with an opportunity to share with others! Even if our tax dollars are not used wisely or efficiently, this seems to bypass all of that and get the needed items to the ones who are in need. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to share with friends. Very cute welcoming decoration...line up here. My first visit to your site, so I"ll be back!
ReplyDeleteThat is a fun idea! I love shopping for back to school supplies and I know how much those teachers appreciate "the store." I spent a lot of my paycheck on my students and classroom supplies and I know that most teachers do. (I even bought chalkboards and paint for the walls for mine.)
ReplyDeleteAs a retired teacher, I absolutely LOVE this idea. I am going to share this one with friends.
ReplyDeleteThat IS a wonderful idea. I love that your friend makes it a friend get-together and provides the opportunity for others to give something to someone in need.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful idea and reason to get together.
ReplyDeleteI really am going back to school on Tuesday! My Daughter in Law had to buy supplies that she hopes to get reimbursed so glad you helped teachers! Warms my heart. We ordered new stabilo pens!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for a get together. I love to buy school supplies this would help my urge.

What a wonderful idea for teachers and their students and it's nice that you all participate but have fun while doing it :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea and a good reason to get together with friends.
ReplyDeleteI applaud your hostess!!!
ReplyDeleteFor combining a wonderful charitable work, with the fun.
