when will I ever learn?

This is my "go to" window in the front of our house: it's good for checking playing children, the weather, cul de sac activity, if the mail has arrived, if guests have arrived ... and you get the idea. When we had the disastrous tree limb fly through another window in front, it became necessary to get replacement windows.

They'd been badly needed but put off and put off again. I love my wood windows with the panes ... and hated to see them go, but you can't have one odd new window in front, can you? Well I guess you can but ... I was also concerned the windows were a different white than the house trim.

So I was fussing about the loss of the old, decaying windows I hold so dear. I was away the day they "popped out" the old ones and "popped in" the new ones.

Why do we fuss and not trust? Or I should say, why do I fuss and not trust?

The windows look just fine. Actually good. And I barely notice a difference. I almost can't wait to clean them, they will be so easy! I don't miss the old brown metal storm windows either. and yes, already, our power bill is lower.  Sigh. Will I ever learn just to take what comes?

  2. I can relate! We should really put new windows in our old (1921) house but.....there are 27 windows on the first floor alone!

By all means, post the Orange Almond Torte. It is delicious, very easy to make and has a "wow" factor of 10!!

    Best,

  3. Nice! We have all the original (1916) wavy glass windows and I LOVE THEM. Mr Op has been talking bout replacing them:(

But hearing your story make me see the light at the end of the tunnel.

    enjoy those lower energy bills!

  4. I totally understand. Our 1940's house has the original wooden mullions as well. And, as it happens, I get to re-caulk them this fall...which you'll miss out on!

Amazing how the pop the old out and pop in the new. Our next door neighbor had his replaced a few years ago, and it was done quickly in one day.

  5. The newer windows are so much more energy efficient aren't they? And they do come with mullions. Mine are between the 2 panes of glass to no cleaning around the mullions. ;) I'm glad you are happy with your new windows.

  6. Old AND new are just loverly.

Funny thing - - - I LOVE the little gee-jaws you have in the window, but were I to have those two green glass pitchers, I'd have them both facing in or both facing out - - - like bookends.

Funny how we are all particular (I can see that you are since you replaced them EXACTLY the way they were on the old) in our own little ways.

    Enjoy the "new" view.

  7. When we replaced our windows, I thought they were going to look too "new" for our old house...I was wrong! I like your new windows and you will love the ease of them and the power bills!

  9. They do make wonderful windows these days! Oh yes, you are going to love cleaning them...so much easier. Glad that there's been a change in the power bill, too. That's always good. Lovely new header you have...

  10. Things happen for a reason and the branch forced you to move on getting new windows.
The new one looks nice and will be less maintenance than the older wooden frame.

  11. The new window looks just as nice as the old one. Such an important window in your home deserves to be fresh and new!

  12. YEAH! AND if your windows are anything like the ones in our first house, you can just tilt them in to clean them....SOOOOOO nice!

  14. Podso,
I like change . . .most of the time. Sometimes, I say leave well enoughalone! Either way...a beautiful view. Mine is similar from where I sit in the home office at the computer!
    Fondly,

  15. I am the same way! The house we just purchased in Colorado needs a new sewer line --a fact we knew about before hand and had the owner reduce the price to pay for. Even though I am happy we found out there was a crack in the line before we bought the house, I dread the mess of the repair. I have to learn to "take it one day at a time" and know all will be well in the end!

  16. I think we are all that way...not wanting change...especially in our cherished homes. It does look good though.

  17. I want to get new windows for our house, but my husband is fussing about it. He loves the wood and doesn't want to lose that, but I dislike the fact that I cannot clean between the original windows and the storms that are permanent. I just don't look at the runs on them when I look out them.
I'm glad you're happy with yours, they are really lovely, maybe I'll have some like them one day! =) Until then I'll keep smiling!
    Hugs, Cindy
