keeping track

When I'm living right, I try to keep my focus on the positive. On gratitude. I look around at small things and big things that I'm grateful for. And yes, even difficult things, for there's usually good lessons there.  I have a little book where I try to keep track. It's a good exercise to write them down, and I can feel so humbled when I realize all there is to be thankful for.

Today I wrote down: "The constant encouragement of the 'Gardener.'" And, "A whole day with Little B." (yes, that's a day with my granddaughter today!) And, "The sound of crickets." As I sat on the porch this morning, they were as loud as ever. As much as I hate to meet them face-to-face, they do bring a comforting sound in the summer. It's the details I like to notice. Makes for a good start to the day.

  2. Hope that all is going well in your corner. A day with a granddaughter will be pure joy...

Yesterday, we bombed the house...for fleas...second time...the cat and dog were put into the garage. The cat was in a cage and the dog was on her own. They howled and wailed most pitifully. John and I felt bad, but knew that it was necessary and that they were safe there away from deadly fumes. There's an analogy there that I hope to remember when I most need it.

  4. I keep a notebook of each month of the year. It is filled with all kind of things that has given me joy in that month.
Like quotes, what the moon and stars are up too, recipes, where I went and the small things in my day to day life that make my life special .
I also keep a yellow tablet beside my computer.

  7. I keep saying I am gonna start my own gratitude journal ... it's something I do every year, but then it always gets pushed to the side in the hustle and bustle of life. Since going back to school and the kids starting yesterday, it's just been go, go, go. :/ Hope your day is a good one. Tammy

  8. Podso,
Reminds me of the scripture at Christmas ..."and Mary pondered these things in her heart". Nice post about what is truly important in life. Family! Perfect afternoon reflection for me!

  12. The simple pleasures! It is good to write them down to refer to on those other days when everything seems slightly off kilter.

  13. So glad that you have that little one to enjoy! Talk about being grateful!

I've been feeling a little low lately - perhaps I'll start a gratitude journal of my own. We do have many blessings.

    Enjoy the weekend!

  14. I've been trying to remember to be grateful for the little things. We are very blessed in North America, and we are probably some of the least grateful people in the world.
How wonderful that you got to spend a day with your grandchild, that is a blessing.

  15. I've been keeping a daily gratitude journal since Oprah spoke about it on her show years ago. She described the way it made a big difference in her life. It gives us a greater appreciation for the little things in life that makes us happy and makes us feel content.

  18. Very true and I needed to read this, as hard times also happen for a reason, sometimes even for the better and usually for a more of our learning process in our daily life. BUT, there's sooo much to be thankful for too. Specially for our Little Ones and yes, for the sound of birds, crickets, etc. Thank you for sharing.
