I think my father's love of bricks became mine. He loved brick streets and brick walls especially. And yes, built us a red brick house the year I was born. I remember so well watching bricks being made by hand out in the African countryside––a huge basin full of red clay slapped and smoothed into a rustic wood forms. And set to bake in the hot sun. Not all that different from making bread or cakes, really.
And what could be prettier than brick steps to leading to such a welcoming door?

I agree that red bricks are beautiful! Wish I had them on my home front too.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a red brick house and was comforted in knowing that the "big bad wolf couldn't blow it down".
ReplyDeleteVery cute new photos of the Littles on your sidebar!
Best,
Bonnie
ReplyDeleteLoving all these bricks!
Our sidewalk, on which I learned to roller skate btw, was made of brick. Not smooth brick either!
Hehehehe
Marion Indiana still may have a few brick streets left - - - I know they did until just a few years ago.
Beautiful images. I like red brick too.
ReplyDeleteWell, as a Latin country here, you can find so many brick buildings and homes, with brick color roof tiles. I too love it! Have a blessed week darling Podso.

I really like red brick with green ivy growing all over it, though it damages it so much that I don't think anyone allows that anymore. In my former home, I had a floor to ceiling red brick hearth built. It was lovely and colonial. I'd do it all over again if I had the room.
ReplyDeleteI also grew up in a red brick house. Love the redbrick houses and the shot of the brick street. Great shots, have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteHello Dotsie
ReplyDeleteBricks can create so many unique patterns too and I think red is likely a traditional colour. Our home has an orangey colour and they're not very well made as some are crumbling already.

I love the brick. Our house is built of old red brick with a tan finish. There is a lot of the red showing through. Our town has done some of our side streets over in brick, gives it a classy look. Nice idea for a mosaic.

ReplyDeleteOur front porch is made from old red bricks. They do have a certain charm to them...your pictures are lovely!

Nice mosaics! Red brick building are so beautifully classic and it is an art to know how to lay them properly.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a red brick house too. My parents are still there. I always think of red brick homes as cozy and warm. Your African memories are always so interesting!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!

Podso,
ReplyDeleteI adore your photos! A few years ago, while visiting in the KC area, I photographed some herringbone patterns done with bricks in an upscale business/ retail area!
Fondly,
Pat

I also love the look os brick. I adore cobblestone, or brick roads also. When we moved into our home 31 years ago, we foud some very old bricks in our creek bed, some were solid, others had holes and I drug them all up to our wildlife rehab and release house, and covered the floor in them. Some of them were covered in moss and those were my favorites~
